The Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary is a new addition to Sigma's lineup for APS-C systems. It is an exceptionally compact and bright standard zoom that is adapted for mirrorless cameras. The lens is ideal for a wide range of uses in both photography and video, including landscapes, portraits, street photography, architecture and events.

The Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary has a fast and almost completely silent autofocus that makes the lens perfect for a variety of photographic situations, including shooting in quiet environments, recording videos and photographing fast-moving subjects. This has been achieved by using a stepper motor. Because the lens is small and light, it can be used flexibly in hand-held shooting situations that require high mobility, gimbal shooting, one-man shooting and vlogging. Focusing on making the lens as versatile as possible for a wide variety of shooting conditions, Sigma designed the lens with a minimum focusing distance of 12.1cm and a maximum magnification of 1:2.8*, making it ideal for close-ups as well.

The Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary covers 27mm to 75mm in the 35mm format, and has a large aperture of f/2.8 throughout the zoom range. This makes it easy to achieve blurred backgrounds, which is perfect for attractive portraits and close-ups. The bokeh is smooth and attractive so it doesn't distract from the subject in focus. The lens' three high-performance aspherical glass elements combined with the minimization of the total number of elements provide excellent optical quality without weighing too much, and the use of in-camera aberration correction eliminates additional optical defects such as distortion and vignetting.
