The RED V-RAPTOR XL (X) 8K Production Pack - V-Lock is a powerful all-purpose movie camera that combines the strengths of RED's two families of cameras into one. With its V-RAPTOR (X) 8K VV sensor, it offers stunning image quality and an enhanced on-set experience, thanks to its global shutter progress. This large-scale production-ready XL camera body uses the latest technology to give cinematographers unprecedented image control and versatility.

New Large Format Standard

Key features shared with the original V-RAPTOR include a lockable Canon RF lens mount, two 12G-SDI monitor outputs and dual CFexpress Type B slots that support up to 8K120 recording. The V-RAPTOR XL[X] 8K VV also features a redesigned sensor cavity that suppresses stray light and improves contrast, plus enhanced built-in audio preamps.

Advanced Intelligent Focus

In-camera and on-sensor processing, enhanced autofocus with phase detection plus all-new face detection mean the V-RAPTOR XL [X] offers versatility and confidence for all levels of filmmakers.

Global Shutter

The global shutter captures your subject's movements accurately, no matter how fast they move, without the distortion or Jello-like effects sometimes found with a rolling shutter. With the global shutter, you can capture every movement, flash and series without compromising image quality, dynamic range or flexibility in post-production.

RED Global Vision

With the V-RAPTOR XL [X] 8K VV, RED has introduced its Global Vision suite of tools that utilize the global shutter sensor to offer even greater flexibility and ease of use throughout your production process. These tools include an Extended Highlights mode, which offers 3+ steps of additional dynamic range, maintaining color and detail even in extreme highlights.

Dynamic range

The 17+ steps of dynamic range in standard modes and up to 20+ in Extended Highlights mode allow the V-RAPTOR XL [X] to deliver both smooth highlight roll-off and uncompromising low-light performance.

Phantom Track

The Phantom Track feature streamlines any virtual production workflow using GhostFrame or frame remapping, capturing distinct R3D clips for each sub-frame segment in addition to enabling monitoring of both segments live-on set across each SDI output. This allows your director and talent to work with a green screen while the VF/X team can simultaneously view the image without having to see or lock in that background. Phantom Track can also be used when applying dedicated ad overlays during a live broadcast.

Up to 8K 120 fps

Unparalleled frame rate performance allows V-RAPTOR XL [X] users to exploit creative elements such as time-lapse or speed ramp or to extract ultra-sharp still images.

Dual voltage battery support

An integrated V-mount battery plate with multiple auxiliary outputs supports both high-voltage 26V batteries and standard 12V batteries.

Internal ND filters

Motorized 2 to 7-stage ND filters with 1/4, 1/3 and 1-stage gain provide precise exposure control.

Auxiliary outputs

Multiple 12 and 24V outputs provide auxiliary power for accessories and peripherals, all in one central location.

Built-in Control Display

The integrated side display provides intuitive and easy-to-navigate, comprehensive control, including in-camera format selection, custom buttons and more.

Virtual Production/Advanced Connectivity

TheV-RAPTOR XL[X] 8K VV uses a DSMC3 platform to offer advanced connectivity solutions such as remote control, remote monitoring, in-camera Frame.io integrations, AWS (Amazon Web Services) direct upload, the RED Connect module for live 8K R3D video over IP or live 4K via SMPTE ST 2110, and more. These enhanced features put V-RAPTOR[X] at the forefront of technology used for virtual production.

Live streaming and the Control Pro app

Connect the V-RAPTOR XL [X] with fiber cable and the RED CONNECT module to live stream 8K full-resolution cinematic video over an IP network. Use the RED Control Pro iOS/Android app and the all-new RED CONNECT technology to utilize the V-RAPTOR XL [X]'s features.

All-New Audio Architecture

Redesigned audio hardware provides cleaner, clearer sound when using external microphones with V-RAPTOR [X].

Durable, Robust Design

Designed with water- and dust-resistant materials in critical areas of the body, V-RAPTOR XL [X] is suitable for a variety of environments. However, it is not waterproof and should be handled as you would any high-end electronics.
