Sony FX5 Body – Cinema Line Full-Frame Camera

The Sony FX5 Body is a professional Cinema Line camera designed for filmmakers who want to combine uncompromising image quality with a compact and flexible camera body. With a new 16.6 MP stacked Exmor RS CMOS full-frame sensor, the powerful BIONZ XR2 processor with integrated AI, internal 16-bit X-OCN RAW recording, Open Gate, and up to 5K 120p and 4K 240p, the FX5 delivers top-class performance for everything from feature films and commercials to documentaries and live productions. The camera offers over 15 stops of dynamic range, three base ISO modes, advanced AI autofocus, 5-axis image stabilization, and professional connectivity in a rugged, weather-sealed body built for demanding productions.

New-Generation Cinema Line with Stacked Full-Frame Sensor

At the heart of the Sony FX5 is the new 35mm Exmor RS CMOS sensor with a stacked design that delivers extremely fast readout, low rolling shutter, and impressive detail. The sensor works in tandem with the latest BIONZ XR2 processor and AI processing unit to deliver high image quality, fast response, and effective noise reduction even under very demanding shooting conditions. This combination provides a natural color gamut, high contrast, and a cinematic look straight out of the camera.

Internal 16-bit X-OCN RAW and Professional Codecs

For the first time in this camera class, you can record 16-bit X-OCN RAW directly internally without an external recorder. In addition to X-OCN LT, C1, and C2, XAVC HS and XAVC S are also supported, offering great flexibility between maximum image quality and efficient file size. This makes the FX5 a powerful tool for professional film productions where color grading and post-production are the focus.

Open Gate and Extreme Slow Motion

The Sony FX5 offers Open Gate recording across the entire sensor, providing maximum flexibility for post-production and delivery in various formats. The camera records up to 5K at 120 frames per second and 4K at up to 240 frames per second, enabling impressive slow motion without compromising image quality. For creators working in commercials, sports, music videos, or documentaries, this opens up entirely new creative possibilities.

Over 15 stops of dynamic range

With more than 15 stops of dynamic range in S-Log3, both highlights and shadows are rendered with impressive detail. Sony has also equipped the FX5 with three base ISO modes (800, 4000, and 12800) as well as Dual Gain Shooting, which minimizes noise while maintaining maximum detail even in extremely challenging lighting conditions.

AI-powered autofocus with 759 phase-detection points

The built-in AI processor delivers one of Sony’s most advanced autofocus solutions to date. The camera identifies and tracks people, animals, and birds with high precision, while Real-time Eye AF ensures sharp focus even at wide apertures. With up to 759 phase-detection focus points, tracking works reliably even when the subject is moving quickly or in low light.

Optimized for anamorphic film production

The Sony FX5 features built-in anamorphic de-squeeze, making it easy to use modern anamorphic lenses directly during recording. The camera supports de-squeeze for 1.3x, 1.5x, 1.6x, 1.8x, and 2.0x, making it compatible with a very wide range of professional anamorphic lenses from manufacturers such as Blazar, Atlas, Cooke, and other manufacturers.

5-axis image stabilization and compact design

Despite its advanced features, the FX5 is built for handheld use. The built-in 5-axis image stabilization effectively reduces camera shake and is complemented by Dynamic Active Mode for even smoother video. The camera body is lightweight, compact, and equipped with multiple mounting points, making it perfect for gimbals, drones, shoulder rigs, and documentary filming where mobility is crucial.

Professional Audio and Advanced Workflows

The FX5 is designed for full-scale professional productions. The camera supports up to four audio channels with 32-bit float recording via the compatible XLR handle and offers dual CFexpress Type A/SD card slots, HDMI Type A, dual USB-C ports, 2.5G Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3. This makes it easy to integrate the camera into modern production environments with remote control, network transfer, and fast workflows.

BIG6 Interface and Cinema Line Workflow

The user interface builds on Sony’s CineAlta series with the well-known BIG6 screen, which displays the most important camera settings simultaneously. Focusing tools such as Waveform, False Color, Focus Map, Histogram, and Peaking make it easy to expose and focus correctly right during recording. Combined with S-Cinetone, S-Gamut3.Cine, and multiple S-Log3 modes, the FX5 becomes a powerful tool for professional filmmakers.
