Kinefinity VISTA FF 6K Open Gate – Compact Cinema Camera for Creative Productions

VISTA is a full-frame 6K Open Gate cinema camera that fits in the palm of your hand. It combines a complete, professional filmmaking experience with an incredibly compact and lightweight design. With a whole new level of portability and reliability, VISTA is built to go wherever you go—from personal projects to formal productions—without compromising on image quality or features.

Cinema Quality in a Pocket-Sized Format

VISTA is neither a scaled-down video tool nor a stripped-down professional system. It delivers a complete and reliable cinema camera experience in the smallest possible form factor. Weighing just 610 grams and measuring 101×87×65 mm, it’s light enough to carry with you everywhere and feature-rich enough to handle real-world productions. This is made possible by a chassis made of CNC-machined aircraft-grade aluminum that can withstand rough handling, while the camera maintains a low power consumption of just 7.5W.

World-Class Image Sensor and Image Quality

At the heart of VISTA is a full-frame 6K 3:2 CMOS sensor with Open Gate resolution (6016×3984 pixels). This gives you the entire sensor’s image area to work with, which is a dream for post-production where you can crop and recompose without any loss of quality. The sensor offers 14 stops of dynamic range and features dual base ISOs of 800 and 5120, allowing you to work in everything from bright daylight to low light while maintaining image quality. With KineLOG3 color science and built-in 3D LUTs, you get a cinematic color palette right in the camera.

Workflow and Connectivity

VISTA is designed to be a standalone system. It is the first of its kind with a built-in 220GB SSD, which means you can start recording immediately without having to worry about memory cards. For added security and flexibility, there’s also a CFexpress Type B card slot for simultaneous dual recording. The camera is fully equipped with two full-size HDMI outputs, dual USB-C ports (for power and data transfer), Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. This makes it a complete and reliable tool in any production environment.

Built for the User

The 4-inch 6:5 Retina OLED display with a brightness of 700 nits is specially designed to show the entire Open Gate image with room for status bars and the UI. The screen can be folded out and rotated 360 degrees, making it perfect for both traditional horizontal filming and vertical content. With a runtime of approximately 3 hours on a single NP-F550-compatible battery, you won’t have to worry about constantly searching for a power outlet.

  • Documentary filmmakers and journalists: Who need a reliable and lightweight camera to capture moments in the field without drawing attention.
  • Event and wedding photographers: Who want to deliver standout production quality with smooth handling during long days.
  • Independent Filmmakers: Who value full control over the image and a professional workflow in a compact and affordable package.
  • Social media content creators: Who need a camera that can easily switch between horizontal and vertical shooting.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between Open Gate and standard 16:9 recording?
Open Gate uses the entire sensor area (3:2 aspect ratio) for recording. This gives you maximum flexibility in post-production to crop to your desired format (e.g., 16:9, 2.39:1, or vertical for social media) without losing image quality or having to change lenses.
Can I use my existing Sony E-mount lenses?
Yes, the VISTA comes with an active E-mount mount that gives you electronic control over aperture and focus (not autofocus) for Sony lenses. The camera can also be ordered with KineMOUNT (which allows the use of adapters for PL, EF, and LPL) or an Active PL mount.
Why should I choose VISTA over a mirrorless camera like the Sony FX3 or Nikon ZR?
VISTA is built for filmmakers who prioritize a dedicated cinema camera workflow with Open Gate recording, ProRes/H.265 codecs, and a full I/O panel. The built-in SSD and low power consumption make it a more self-sufficient and reliable tool for professional productions, compared to hybrid cameras that often involve compromises in both connectivity and workflow.
Is the camera difficult to learn for someone used to mirrorless cameras?
The Kinefinity VISTA is designed with an intuitive interface reminiscent of DSLR cameras, but with more professional controls. For users accustomed to hybrid cameras, it may take a few days to get used to the workflow, but the logical menu structure and clear display make the learning curve shorter than you might think.
