Atomos AtomX CAST for Ninja V/V+ – Turns your NINJA V/V+ into a 4-input HDMI switcher and streaming hub

ATOMX CAST is a modular companion designed specifically for the ATOMOS NINJA V or NINJA V+. It uses the ATOMX expansion port on the NINJA V/V+ to convert the monitor-recorder into a multi-input switcher and streaming device. Together, the NINJA V/V+ and ATOMX CAST form the NINJA CAST — a fully functional, stand-alone switcher, multiview monitor and broadcast-quality recorder that can work without a computer.

What ATOMX CAST does

ATOMX CAST delivers live production features in a compact package. When docked with a NINJA V or NINJA V+, it provides four HDMI inputs, physical controls, and integration with the NINJA’s 5” HDR touchscreen. Consequently, you get a portable solution for switching, monitoring and recording multi-camera productions without needing a separate workstation.

Who it is for

ATOMX CAST targets video creators, remote presenters and anyone who needs broadcast-quality multi-camera programs from anywhere. It suits users producing online meetings, presentations, remote learning sessions, virtual conferences, demonstrations and corporate videos. Moreover, CAST aims to make broadcast-style switching accessible to non-professionals through a simple, user-friendly design.

Simple and flexible switching

You can switch sources using either the NINJA V/V+ touchscreen or the physical buttons on the ATOMX CAST dock. The unit provides illuminated buttons for each input and coloured LEDs for Program and Preview status, which helps when you operate in dim environments. This flexible control approach supports both quick solo setups and collaborative crew workflows.

Connect almost any full HD video source

ATOMX CAST accepts mirrorless or DSLR cameras, video cameras, computers, consoles and pre-recorded HDMI content. It handles mixed sources easily: you can combine frame rates up to 60p and mix interlaced and progressive HD signals automatically, so you do not need to match every camera’s settings in advance.

Integrated monitor and multiview

With the NINJA V/V+ docked, the CAST uses the NINJA’s high-quality 5” HDR touchscreen for setup and monitoring. You can view incoming signals and Program out without adding a second monitor. Additionally, multiview lets you see all four inputs at once, and the interface includes audio level monitoring to help you balance sources on the fly.

Seamless USB-C webcam integration

When connected to a computer via USB-C, the NINJA V/V+ with ATOMX CAST appears as a UVC webcam. This plug-and-play behaviour makes it immediately compatible with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype and other video applications without installing drivers. As a result, you can add up to four camera inputs to standard conferencing or streaming workflows quickly and reliably.

Graphics, branding and Picture-in-Picture

CAST supports overlaying custom graphics, logos, mast head graphics and lower-thirds with transparency. You can add sponsor logos or other on-screen information and adjust the layout directly on the NINJA touchscreen. In addition, the Picture-in-Picture function allows any of the four HDMI inputs to be displayed simultaneously, with controls for the overlay’s size and placement.

Portable and adaptable for different setups

The compact ATOMX CAST works well for solo operators and larger teams alike. Solo users can transport the Ninja CAST in a small backpack and deploy it with compact mirrorless cameras for discreet productions. For larger setups, the NINJA V/V+ HDMI output can serve as a secondary output — for duplicate program out, preview monitoring for crew or talent, or to drive a larger multiview display.

Advanced workflows with computer-based software

While ATOMX CAST functions as a stand-alone switcher, you can also use it alongside a computer for more advanced production tasks. In that setup, CAST and the NINJA V/V+ handle core video processing and switching, which reduces CPU load on your computer and lowers the risk of software crashes. Add the CAST as a media source in OBS, XSplit or vMix to combine CAST’s inputs with additional software graphics and scene configurations.

Broadcast-quality switching and recording

CAST provides professional-level inputs and supports broadcast codecs. It accepts 10bit/4:2:2 inputs and can record in edit-ready formats such as Apple ProRes or Avid DNx. There is also an option for H.265 encoding. These capabilities enable high-quality recording and delivery suitable for post-production and distribution.

Versatile outputs and streaming

ATOMX CAST can stream to online platforms, output broadcast-quality video to local displays, digital signage or video walls, and record using high-quality, edit-ready codecs. The system supports simultaneous recording, streaming and local display output, offering flexibility for live events and multi-destination workflows.
