B&W Outdoor Battery.case P908.08 – Safe transport & storage of intact and defective lithium batteries (yellow)

The B&W battery.case P908.08 stores and transports intact and defective lithium batteries safely. It is robust, user-friendly and officially tested and approved for transport of intact and defective lithium batteries on public roads under ADR P908. The case has a maximum payload of 0.8 kg.

Approved hazardous goods packaging and safety testing

The case is tested and approved as hazardous goods packaging in accordance with ADR P908 and conforms to the UN packaging specifications 3480/3481. Tests under real conditions showed that no flames escaped from burning batteries and the outer shell of the battery.case P908.08 remained constantly below 100°C. Because of these approvals, you can use the case for transport on public roads when the rules for P903 and P908 apply.

Built-in safety features

  • Unique safety system that closes automatically in the event of a fire; this mechanism is registered with the German Patent and Trade Mark Office.
  • High-quality plastic outer case with an internal metal container for added protection.
  • Activated carbon filter that reduces escaping gases and significantly reduces soot formation in the event of a battery fire.
  • Tested to prevent flame escape under real battery fire conditions.

Use cases: P903 and P908 applications

The battery.case is officially approved for both P903 and P908 transport and storage rules. Follow the specific instructions for each case:

P903 – transport and storage of intact lithium batteries and accumulators

  • Use the pre-punched foam to protect the battery; adapt the foam to the battery shape for a secure fit.
  • Fire bags do not have to be used when following the instructions, but you must protect batteries from short circuits and observe any further specifications or detailed operating instructions where necessary.

P908 – transport and storage of defective lithium batteries and accumulators

Use the P908 procedure for batteries that match one or more of the following conditions. Please follow the corresponding instructions when storing or transporting such batteries:

  • Battery declared defective for safety reasons
  • Deformed or inflated battery
  • Degassed cell or battery
  • Burnt-out cell or battery
  • Melted plastic parts or connections on the battery
  • Detectable strange gas smell
  • BMS (if present) identifies defective cells
  • Damaged casing

Practical design and handling features

The P908.08 combines practical design with features that assist storage, transport and even charging while closed:

  • Customisable pre-punched cube foam that you can adapt to almost any battery type to ensure a stable hold during transport.
  • Loading space of 208 x 141 x 66 mm provides room for typical lithium-ion cells used in devices such as e-bikes, drones and cordless tools.
  • Ingenious cable routing allows safe charging of a battery while the case remains closed; the slide-in plate secures cables with a maximum permissible diameter of up to 5 mm.
  • Includes one fireproof protective bag for additional protection when storing or charging a defective Li-ion battery.
  • Two eyelets for padlocks (Ø 4.5 mm) allow the case to be secured during transport or storage.
  • Stackable design and a rubberised carrying handle improve handling and storage efficiency.
  • Lockable cable gland and foam lid complete the protection features.

Materials and manufacturer information

The outer housing is made from polypropylene (PP). The case includes an internal metal container and an activated carbon filter. B&W develops products to meet individual customer requirements and focuses on reliable, aesthetic and functional solutions for transport and storage.

Handling tips for customers

When you place a battery in the case, cut and adapt the cube foam so the battery sits tightly and cannot move. Protect battery terminals to prevent short circuits before closing the case. Use the slide-in plate to secure any charging cables (max. 5 mm diameter) if you charge while the case is closed. Always follow applicable transport regulations for P903 and P908.

FAQ

Question: Can I transport both intact and defective lithium batteries in the B&W battery.case P908.08?
Answer: Yes. The case is officially approved for the transport and storage of both intact and defective lithium batteries under the transport regulations P903 and P908.

Question: What happens if a battery catches fire inside the case?
Answer: The case has a unique safety system that closes automatically in the event of an internal fire. In tests with real burning batteries, no flames escaped and the outer shell stayed below 100°C. An activated carbon filter reduces gases and soot formation.

Question: Can I charge a battery inside the case?
Answer: Yes. The design allows charging with the case closed by routing the cable through the lockable cable gland and securing cables (up to 5 mm diameter) with the slide-in plate.

Question: How do I secure the case during transport?
Answer: The case is stackable and has two eyelets (Ø 4.5 mm) for padlocks. Use the padlocks and the rubberised handle to secure and carry the case safely.

Question: Is the foam inside adjustable for different battery types?
Answer: Yes. The pre-punched cube foam is customisable; adapt the foam to the battery to ensure a stable and secure hold during transport.
