Chasing Cerulean Omniscan 450 FS Sonar 100M – Forward-Looking ROV Sonar with Integrated Ethernet and Power

The Chasing Cerulean Omniscan 450 FS is designed for forward-looking ROV applications. The transducer and electronics sit together in a single enclosure and the unit uses an Ethernet plus power interface. Two enclosure depth-rating options are available: 100m or 300m. When used with SonarView, the Omniscan 450 FS "paints" an image of the scanned area of the sea floor, giving excellent situational awareness even in murky conditions.

Forward-looking imaging for ROVs and surface vessels

The Omniscan 450 FS provides forward-looking sonar imaging that works for both ROVs and surface vessels. In setups where a surface vessel has GPS or an ROV has a DVL, scanning is both translational and rotational, which supports mapping and navigation while the platform moves.

Position tracking when external positioning is not available

For underwater vehicles without external positioning information, Omniscan offers Doppler Position Tracking to supply translational information in the direction of the beam. You can also use a pair of Omniscan 450 FS units—one mounted forward and one mounted 90 degrees to either side—to achieve full 2D motion tracking. This paired configuration enables a position hold mode for improved station-keeping and situational control.

Mounting on the M2 Pro Max

To mount the Omniscan 450 FS to the M2 Pro Max you will also need the quick mounting bracket, article 128907. The bracket is a required accessory for attaching the sonar to the M2 Pro Max platform.

FAQ

Question: Is the Omniscan 450 FS suitable for forward-looking ROV applications?
Answer: Yes. The Omniscan 450 FS is described as ideally suited for forward-looking ROV applications, with transducer and electronics in a single enclosure and an Ethernet plus power interface.

Question: What depth options are available for the Omniscan 450 FS?
Answer: The Omniscan 450 FS is available with two enclosure depth-rating options: 100m or 300m.

Question: How does the Omniscan 450 FS help in low-visibility conditions?
Answer: When used with SonarView, the Omniscan 450 FS "paints" an image of the scanned sea floor, providing situational awareness even in murky water.

Question: Can the Omniscan 450 FS provide motion tracking without GPS or DVL?
Answer: Yes. For vehicles without external positioning, Omniscan's Doppler Position Tracking can supply translational information in the beam direction. Additionally, using two Omniscan 450 FS units in a forward and 90-degree side arrangement enables full 2D motion tracking and position hold mode.

Question: Do I need any extra parts to mount the sonar on an M2 Pro Max?
Answer: Yes. To mount the Omniscan 450 FS to the M2 Pro Max you need the quick mounting bracket, article 128907.
