Kupo KCP-241B 40" Extension Grip Arm with Baby Hex Pin - Black — End-mounted baby hex pin for secure mini-boom accessory mounting

The Kupo KCP-241B is a 40" extension grip arm designed for mounting lights and accessories at the arm’s tip. At the end of the arm you will find a baby hex pin with six milled flat surfaces. This hex pin allows fixtures or accessories to be mounted like a small boom and provides stable attachment points for set-screws to lock into.

Design and construction

The arm uses a 40" length of steel tubing with a 5/8" (16 mm) diameter. The tubing surface is machined to create a rough texture, which helps prevent slipping during handling and adjustment. At the opposite end from the hex pin, the arm features a 2-1/2" grip head mounted on the tubing.

2-1/2" grip head features

The 2-1/2" grip head combines multiple mounting options and a robust clamping mechanism. It consists of a pair of rotating aluminum discs attached to a 5/8" receiver. Those discs contain four different-sized V-shaped jaws to accept common accessory studs and tubing sizes.

  • The 2-1/2" grip head features an oversized ergonomic "T" handle and dedicated roller bearings designed for maximum torque.
  • Allows mounting the light fixtures or accessories on the end of the grip arm like a mini boom.
  • The discs have four different sized "V" shaped jaws to accept any accessory with a 5/8", 1/2", 3/8", or 1/4" mounting stud.
  • Limited two-year warranty.

How the jaws and locking work

The V-shaped jaws include teeth that grab whatever is positioned between the plates, providing a secure hold. In addition, accessories mounted on the baby hex pin will not rotate when a set-screw from that fixture or accessory locks onto one of the flat sides of the hex pin. The grip head uses a non-slip aluminum friction disc designed to maintain durability and provide positive locking strength over time.

For added durability, the grip head is constructed around a solid steel central stift with a fixed solid pin securing it to the aluminum casting. This construction supports precise control while the dedicated roller bearings reduce friction when applying torque with the T-handle.

Typical use cases

  1. Mounting small lights or accessories at the end of the arm to act as a mini boom.
  2. Securing accessories with a range of common stud sizes using the V-shaped jaws.
  3. Quickly adjusting and locking position with the ergonomic "T" handle and roller bearings for reliable clamping.
