The Laowa 15mm f/4.5 Wide Angle Macro Lens combines an ultra-wide perspective with close-focusing macro capability. It targets full-frame cameras and lets you place detailed foreground subjects against expansive backgrounds. The lens is compact and built for photographers who want both wide-angle views and macro detail without carrying heavy glass.
The lens offers an ultra-wide 110.5° field of view while also delivering 0.5× magnification for close-up work. As a result, you can photograph small subjects in the foreground and still include a large amount of background for context. In practice, the 0.5× magnification provides a more practical working distance than higher magnifications such as 1:1 or 2:1, so you can create distinctive compositions that pair foreground detail with wide scenes.
The optical formula uses 16 elements arranged in 11 groups. It includes three ED glass elements and two aspherical elements. These components work together to reduce chromatic aberration and control distortion, which helps produce sharp images with clear detail across the frame.
The lens weighs 308 grams, making it lightweight and easy to carry. It has a removable lens hood to protect the front element and to help control flare when needed. You can attach 62mm filters via the filter thread for creative or protective filters.
Laowa offers multiple mount options: Canon RF, Nikon Z, Sony E, L mount, Canon EF, and Nikon F. Auto aperture functionality is available for E, Z, and EF mounts. For those mounts, the lens provides convenient aperture control and transmits EXIF data through the camera.
The lens produces 10-point sunstars, which can add attractive highlights to scenes with bright points of light. It manages distortion well for a 15mm optic, making it suitable for architectural work and landscapes where straight lines matter. At the same time, the close-focusing ability gives you creative macro options.
