This NiSi Cine Nano IR GND Hard is a hard-edge graduated neutral density filter in size 4x5.65" with a 0.6 density. It darkens specific areas of an image, such as bright skies, while keeping the exposure normal and unaffected in the rest of the frame. The filter is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a sharp edged line of transition between the dense and clear areas.
NiSi designed this graduated IRND filter specifically for digital imaging. The filter promotes nearly flat attenuation across both visible and infrared light. As a result, it helps eliminate color casts and retain truer blacks when you extend exposure times. To achieve this, NiSi applies one layer of its Optical Nano Coating to each surface of the filter, targeting both infrared and visible wavelengths.
Use this hard-edge GND when the separation between bright and dark parts of the scene is very defined. Typical examples include the horizon line or the boundary between sea level and sky. Because the dense area is located at the edge and fades to clear toward the middle, the filter preserves normal exposure in foregrounds or lower frame areas while reducing overexposed skies or other bright sections.

Question: Will this filter change the coloration of my image?
Answer: No. The NiSi Cine Nano IR GND Hard is designed not to affect coloration and to remain neutral across the visible and infrared spectrums.
Question: When is a hard-edge graduated ND preferable to a soft-edge variant?
Answer: Use a hard-edge GND when the separation between bright and dark areas is well defined, for example at the horizon or the line between sea level and sky, because the filter provides a sharp transition between dense and clear areas.
Question: How does the NiSi Optical Nano Coating help my images?
Answer: Each surface carries one layer of NiSi Optical Nano Coating that attenuates infrared as well as visible wavelengths. This helps maintain color neutrality and suppresses color casts that can occur with longer exposures on digital sensors.
Question: What comes with the filter for protection and transport?
Answer: The filter comes with a leatherette pouch included for storage and transport, and the filter itself features scratch resistance for improved durability.
