This NiSi Cine Nano IR GND Hard filter darkens specific areas of an image—typically bright skies—while leaving the rest of the frame unaffected. The filter is densest at the edge and tapers to clear toward the middle, with a sharp, hard-edged transition between the dense and clear areas. It is normally used when the separation between bright and dark regions is very defined, such as the horizon line or the boundary between sea level and the sky.
The NiSi Nano Hard-Edge Graduated IRND filter reduces exposure in the brighter parts of the scene without altering exposure in the darker parts. Use it to balance scenes where a straight, well-defined division exists between bright and dark areas. Because the transition is sharp, this filter suits landscapes and seascapes with clear horizons.
NiSi designed this filter to perform well with digital sensors. Each surface carries one layer of NiSi Optical Nano Coating to promote nearly flat attenuation of both visible and infrared light. That coating helps maintain color neutrality, suppress color casts that can appear with longer exposures, and contribute to cleaner, truer blacks when using the filter.
The package includes the NiSi Nano Hard-Edge Graduated IRND filter and a leatherette pouch for storage and transport. The pouch protects the filter when not in use and makes it easier to carry between locations.

Question: When should I choose the hard-edge GND over a soft-edge graduated filter?
Answer: Choose the hard-edge GND when the boundary between bright and dark areas is well defined—examples include clear horizon lines, sea level versus sky, or other scenes with straight, distinct separations.
Question: Will this filter change the color of my image?
Answer: No. NiSi neutral density filters are designed not to affect image coloration. Each surface has a NiSi Optical Nano Coating that attenuates infrared and visible light to maintain color neutrality and reduce color casts, especially during longer exposures.
Question: Is this filter suitable for digital camera sensors?
Answer: Yes. The filter’s design and the Nano Optical Coating were optimized for use with digital sensors to promote nearly flat attenuation across visible and infrared spectra.
Question: What material and durability features does the filter offer?
Answer: The filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity and color fidelity, includes scratch resistance, and is 4mm thick to provide physical durability in the field.
Question: What comes in the box for transport and protection?
Answer: A leatherette pouch is included for storage and transport to help protect the filter when it’s not in use.
