This NiSi Cine Nano IR GND Hard filter darkens specific areas of your image, such as bright skies, while leaving the rest of the frame unaffected. The filter is densest at one edge and then tapers to clear toward the middle. It features a relatively sharp, hard-edged line of transition between the dense and clear areas, so it works well when the separation between bright and dark areas is clearly defined.
Use this hard-edge graduated neutral density filter when you photograph or film scenes with distinct boundaries between bright and dark regions—examples include the horizon line or the boundary between sea level and sky. It preserves normal exposure in the darker regions while reducing overexposure in the bright areas.
The filter’s construction and coatings aim to provide neutral attenuation across visible and infrared spectrums. To that end, NiSi applies one layer of its Optical Nano Coating to each surface. As a result, the filter minimizes color shifts and helps produce cleaner, truer blacks when you use the NiSi Nano Hard-Edge Graduated IRND Filter with digital sensors.

Question: When should I choose the Hard GND over a soft GND?
Answer: Choose the hard-edge GND when the bright and dark areas have a clearly defined separation, such as a straight horizon or the line between sea and sky. The sharp transition helps you control exposure precisely in those situations.
Question: Will this filter introduce color casts to my footage or images?
Answer: No. The NiSi Nano IR GND Hard is designed not to affect image coloration. Each surface receives a NiSi Optical Nano Coating that attenuates infrared and visible wavelengths to help maintain color neutrality and reduce color casts, even with longer exposures.
Question: Can I stack this filter with others?
Answer: Yes. Because the filter is neutral in coloration and constructed from optical glass, it is suitable for use with other filters without introducing color shifts from the graduated ND itself.
Question: What comes in the box and how is the filter protected?
Answer: The filter is 4mm thick and constructed from optical glass. It includes scratch resistance and ships with a leatherette pouch for storage and transport to help protect the surface when not in use.
