This NiSi Nano Soft-Edge Graduated IRND filter darkens specific areas of the frame—most commonly bright skies—while leaving the rest of the exposure normal and unaffected. The filter is densest at the edge and gradually tapers to clear toward the center, creating a soft transition between the dark and clear areas.
NiSi has optimized this filter for use with digital sensors. It promotes nearly flat attenuation across visible and infrared light to reduce unwanted color shifts. To support neutral color reproduction, the manufacturer applies one layer of NiSi Optical Nano Coating to each surface of the filter.
The filter is constructed from optical glass to ensure clarity and color fidelity. Each surface carries one layer of NiSi Optical Nano Coating to attenuate infrared light in addition to visible wavelengths. The glass construction provides scratch resistance and makes the filter easy to clean. The filter is 4mm thick. A leatherette pouch is included for storage and transport.

question Will this filter change the color balance of my photos or footage?
Answer No. The filter is a neutral density type that does not affect image coloration. In addition, each surface has one layer of NiSi Optical Nano Coating to attenuate infrared and visible light, which helps maintain color neutrality and reduce color casts.
question How does the soft edge affect where I place the filter in the frame?
Answer The soft-edged transition provides a gradual blend from dark to clear, making it easier to line up with horizons or gradually changing brightness, especially when the transition does not need to be sharply defined. It works well for scenes with uneven or rolling horizons.
question Is this filter suitable for use with digital sensors and long exposures?
Answer Yes. The filter has been optimized for digital sensors and the Nano Coating attenuates infrared as well as visible wavelengths, which helps suppress infrared-related color casts that can appear during longer exposures.
question What should I expect in terms of durability and maintenance?
Answer The filter is constructed from optical glass and is described as scratch resistant and easy to clean. For storage and protection when not in use, a leatherette pouch is included.
