This NiSi Nano Soft-Edge Graduated IRND filter darkens selected areas of the frame—such as bright skies—while keeping the rest of the image at a normal exposure. The density is strongest at the filter edge and progressively tapers to clear toward the middle, with a soft-edged transition line between the dense and clear zones.
The soft-edge graduated neutral density design lets you reduce brightness in one part of the scene without changing exposure for the remainder. As a result, you can retain details in bright skies while preserving natural exposure and detail in the foreground. The soft-edged transition smooths the change between dark and clear areas for a more natural look with subjects that have irregular horizons.
NiSi engineered this filter for use with digital sensors. Each surface receives one layer of NiSi Optical Nano Coating designed to attenuate both visible and infrared wavelengths. Consequently, the filter promotes nearly flat attenuation across visible and infrared light, which helps eliminate color casts and produces cleaner, truer blacks during longer exposures.
NiSi builds the filter from optical glass to preserve clarity and color fidelity. The filter includes scratch resistance and is easy to clean, which simplifies maintenance on shoot days. It measures 4mm in thickness, offering a robust form factor for handling and insertion into holder systems.
The neutral density effect does not affect image coloration, so you can use this filter together with other filters without introducing undesired color shifts. In practice, this makes the NiSi Nano Soft-Edge Graduated IRND filter a flexible tool when combining filters for creative control.

Question: How does this filter affect exposure in the frame?
Answer: The graduated neutral density design darkens only the denser portion of the filter—commonly used over skies—while leaving the rest of the image at normal exposure. The soft edge ensures a smooth transition between dark and clear areas.
Question: Will this filter change my colors or introduce color casts?
Answer: No. The filter is designed to be neutral across visible wavelengths. Additionally, each surface has a NiSi Optical Nano Coating that attenuates infrared as well as visible light to reduce color casts and help maintain truer blacks during longer exposures.
Question: Is the filter durable and easy to maintain on set?
Answer: Yes. The filter is made from optical glass, offers scratch resistance, and is easy to clean. It also comes with a leatherette pouch for storage and transport.
Question: Can I use this filter together with other filters?
Answer: Yes. Because the filter does not affect image coloration, it works well alongside other filters, giving you flexible options for creative setups.
