The NiSi Cine Filter Polarizer 6x6" is a linear polarizing filter that reduces reflections and glare from non-metallic surfaces while improving color saturation in skies and foliage. It arranges and absorbs directionally polarized light, clears distant haze, and delivers its strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.
The filter places a polarizing layer between two pieces of optical glass. This arrangement aligns directionally polarized light perpendicular to reflected light and absorbs much of that reflected light. As a result, you see noticeably less glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and richer, more saturated colors in landscape scenes.
Unlike circular polarizers, this linear polarizer does not include a quarter wave plate. Therefore, it does not convert linearly polarized light into circularly polarized light. As a consequence, in-camera autofocus and exposure metering can become inaccurate when using this filter.
NiSi builds this linear polarizer by laminating a layer of polarizing film between two pieces of optical glass. Then the glass layers are ground flat to preserve image sharpness. The filter also offers scratch resistance and is supplied without additional coatings.

Question: Will this polarizer affect my camera’s autofocus and exposure?
Answer: Yes. Because it is a linear polarizer and lacks a quarter wave plate, it can skew in-camera autofocus and exposure metering. Use it when you can control exposure manually or when autofocus is not required.
Question: When should I expect the polarizing effect to be strongest?
Answer: The effect is strongest when you shoot at a 90° angle from the sun. For example, shoot with the sun to your side to maximize reduction of glare and to deepen sky and foliage saturation.
Question: What materials and accessories come with the filter?
Answer: The filter is made by laminating polarizing film between two optical glass pieces that are ground flat to maintain sharpness. It is scratch resistant, non-coated, and comes with a leatherette pouch for storage and transport.
