NiSi Athena Prime 14mm T2.4 E-Mount — ultra-wide cine lens with optional Drop-In filter

The NiSi Athena Prime 14mm T2.4 in E-Mount is an ultra-wide cine lens designed for filmmakers who need a wide field of view with proven cine features. This lens is part of the Athena Prime series, which spans focal lengths from 14mm to 135mm and covers super-wide angle to portrait focal lengths for versatile production use.

Key benefits and intended use

Use this 14mm T2.4 lens for expansive scenes, architecture, interiors and immersive shots that require a broad perspective. It shares design and handling characteristics with the rest of the Athena Prime series, making it practical for productions that mix focal lengths across the range.

Optical and mechanical features

  • The Athena series provides an image circle of 46mm, making the lenses suitable for full-frame and large-format sensors.
  • Optical design emphasises ultra-low chromatic aberration and micro-contrast control for finer image detail.
  • The lenses minimise focus breathing so the change in field of view between close focus and infinity remains very small.
  • Aperture and focus rings are matched across the range for consistent operation when swapping lenses during a shoot.
  • All Athena lenses (except the 14mm) use a 77mm front filter thread; this helps standardise filter use across the set.
  • All lenses in the series are similar in weight, so you do not need to rebalance a gimbal when changing between Athena lenses.
  • Focus rotation is 300° with fluorescent focus scales displayed in both imperial and metric units for precise focus pulls.
  • The lenses use standard 0.8 mod focus and iris gears, ensuring compatibility with common follow focus and matte box systems.

Rear filtration and mount options

The Athena Prime series offers a proprietary rear filtration system with Drop-In filter capability. Mount availability includes ARRI PL, Canon RF, Sony E, Panasonic/Leica L and Fuji G. Note the following Drop-In/rear filter details:

  • RF, L and G mounts provide a Drop-In filter option.
  • E-Mount is available in two versions: one with Drop-In filter capability and one without.
  • PL mount uses a rear filter design rather than a Drop-In slot.
  • NiSi supplies weather sealing for the Drop-In filter to protect the rear filter area.

Important: it is necessary to use the Drop-In clear filter on RF, L, G and E-mount versions (and the rear filter on PL-mount versions) to achieve infinity focus and obtain clear images.

Note: the Sony FX9 camera cannot use the E-Mount version that includes Drop-In filters.

Optional accessories

  • NiSi 77mm close-up lens is available separately to reduce the minimum focus distance and create macro effects.

FAQ

Question: Does the E-Mount 14mm come with a Drop-In filter?
Answer: The E-Mount 14mm is offered in two versions — one with the Drop-In filter option and one without. Choose the version that matches your workflow and camera compatibility.

Question: Can I use the E-Mount Drop-In version on a Sony FX9?
Answer: No. The Sony FX9 camera cannot use the E-Mount version that includes Drop-In filters.

Question: Do I need to rebalance my gimbal when switching Athena lenses?
Answer: No. All Athena Prime lenses are similar in weight, so you should not need to rebalance your gimbal when changing lenses within the series.

Question: What filter do I need to achieve infinity focus and clear images?
Answer: Use the Drop-In clear filter on RF, L, G and E-mount versions, and use the rear filter on PL-mount versions. These filters are required to achieve infinity focus and clear optical performance.

Answer: The NiSi 77mm close-up lens is sold separately and can reduce minimum focus distance for macro effects when needed.
