The NiSi Athena Prime 14mm T2.4 in L-Mount delivers an ultra-wide perspective with a T2.4 light transmission rating. It is part of the Athena Prime series, a set of cine lenses designed for filmmakers who need consistent exposure, matched handling and flexible filtration options across a broad focal range.
The Athena Prime series covers focal lengths from 14mm to 135mm and provides consistent T-stop ratings across the set. Specifically, the 14mm has a maximum aperture of T2.4. Other lenses in the series have the following maximum apertures:
Moreover, the lenses provide an image circle of 46mm, which makes them suitable for full-frame and larger format sensors. The series also controls chromatic aberration and micro-contrast to reproduce finer image details.
NiSi designed the Athena Primes to minimize focus breathing. As a result, the change in field of view when focusing from minimum focus distance to infinity remains very small across focal lengths and aperture settings. In addition, all Athena lenses feature:
The series is available in multiple mount options: ARRI PL, Canon RF, Sony E, Panasonic/Leica L and Fuji G. NiSi includes a proprietary rear filtration approach that increases creative flexibility:
Importantly, you must use the Drop-In clear filter on RF, L, G and E mounts, and the rear filter on PL-mount lenses to obtain infinity focus and clear images.
NiSi built the Athena Primes for practical use on professional rigs and gimbals. Most lenses in the series share the same weight characteristics, which means you do not need to rebalance a gimbal when switching between Athena lenses. Additional handling features include:
For close-up work, NiSi offers a 77mm close-up lens (sold separately) that reduces the minimum focus distance and enables macro-style effects when needed.
The 14mm T2.4 L-Mount model brings the ultra-wide end of the Athena range with the same matched handling, focus rotation and filtration features as the rest of the series. Therefore, it integrates smoothly into a kit that uses multiple Athena primes, while still providing the wide-angle perspective and T2.4 transmission required for certain cinematic looks.

Question: Can I use the Drop-In filter versions on any camera body with the listed mounts?
Answer: The Drop-In filter option is available for RF, L and G mounts, and E-mount lenses are offered in versions with or without Drop-In. However, the Sony FX9 specifically cannot use the E-Mount with Drop-In filters. Also, to achieve infinity focus and clear images you must use the Drop-In clear filter on RF, L, G and E mounts and the rear filter on PL-mount lenses.
Question: Do I need to rebalance my gimbal when swapping Athena lenses?
Answer: No. NiSi states that the Athena Primes are similar in weight, so you do not need to rebalance your gimbal when changing lenses within the series.
Question: Will these lenses cover full-frame and larger sensors?
Answer: Yes. The Athena Primes produce an image circle of 46mm, which makes them suitable for full-frame and large-format sensors.
Question: Are the focus and aperture controls compatible with standard cine accessories?
Answer: Yes. The lenses use a standard 0.8 mod for focus and iris gears, and they offer a 300° focus rotation with fluorescent imperial and metric scales for accurate focus pulls.
Question: Can I do close-up or macro work with the 14mm or other Athena lenses?
Answer: NiSi offers a 77mm close-up lens (sold separately) that reduces minimum focus distance and enables close-focus or macro-style effects when attached.
