NiSi Cine Lens Set Athena Prime Master (8 Lenses) E-Mount – 14–135mm primes with 46mm image circle for full-frame and large-format use

The NiSi Athena Cine Lens Set delivers a matched series of prime lenses covering 14mm to 135mm. These lenses provide consistent T-stops across many focal lengths, matched control rings and focus characteristics, and a 46mm image circle that makes them suitable for full-frame and large-format sensors. Use this set when you need versatile focal coverage with consistent handling for narrative and commercial productions.

Complete focal range and consistent T-stops

The set spans ultra-wide to portrait focal lengths: 14mm, 18mm, 25mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 85mm and 135mm. This range covers wide establishing shots through to telephoto portrait work. Furthermore, NiSi specifies T-stop values for each lens to ensure consistent exposure across the set.

  • 25/35/40/50/85mm: maximum aperture T1.9 for shallower depth of field and soft bokeh when needed.
  • 18mm and 135mm: maximum aperture T2.2 to balance coverage at the wide and long ends.
  • 14mm: maximum aperture T2.4 for the ultra-wide angle position.

Image circle and mount options

NiSi designed the Athena Primes with a 46mm image circle. As a result, you can pair these lenses with full-frame cameras and some large-format systems. The series comes in multiple mount options, allowing you to select the mount that fits your camera system.

  • Available mounts: ARRI PL, Canon RF, Sony E, Panasonic/Leica L and Fuji G.
  • For E-mount specifically, NiSi offers two versions: with and without the Drop-In filter.

Optical and mechanical features for filmmaking

NiSi built the Athena Primes to meet cinema production needs. They control chromatic aberration and micro-contrast to produce finer image detail. In addition, the lenses minimize focus breathing so the field of view changes very little when you rack focus from close to infinity.

  • Ultra-low chromatic aberration and micro-contrast control for cleaner images.
  • Minimal focus breathing across focal lengths and apertures.
  • Matched aperture and focus rings across the set for consistent handling.
  • 300° focus rotation with fluorescent focus scales in both imperial and metric units, aiding precise focus pulls.
  • Standard 0.8 mod focus and iris gears for compatibility with follow focus and matte box systems.

Rear Drop-In filter system and weather sealing

The Athena Prime series incorporates a proprietary rear filtration system. This gives filmmakers flexibility when using filters and maintains optical performance without front filter interference on many lenses.

  • Drop-In filter mount available for RF, L and G mounts.
  • E-Mount is offered in two versions: with Drop-In filter and without Drop-In filter.
  • PL mount utilizes a rear filter configuration.
  • NiSi supplies weather sealing for the Drop-In filter to help protect the rear filter element in challenging conditions.

Important compatibility notes

Before choosing a Drop-In equipped E-mount lens, note specific camera restrictions and necessary filter use.

  • Sony FX9 cannot use the E-Mount with Drop-In filters.
  • To achieve infinity focus and clear images, use the Drop-In clear filter on RF, L, G and E mounts, and use the rear filter on PL-mount lenses.

Practical handling and accessories

NiSi ensured the Athena Primes are practical for multi-lens workflows and gimbal use. Most lenses share the same external balance and filter thread size, reducing the need to rebalance when swapping lenses during a shoot.

  • All Athena Primes are similar in weight, reducing gimbal rebalancing when switching lenses.
  • Except for the 14mm, every lens uses a 77mm front filter thread.
  • Both aperture and focus rings are matched across the range for consistent tactile response.
  • NiSi offers a 77mm close-up lens (sold separately) to reduce minimum focus distance and create macro effects when needed.

FAQ

Question: Can I use these lenses on full-frame and large-format cameras?
Answer: Yes. The Athena Primes have a 46mm image circle, making them suitable for full-frame cameras and many large-format sensors.

Question: Are the E-mount lenses equipped with Drop-In filters?
Answer: NiSi offers E-mount lenses in two versions: one with Drop-In filter capability and one without. Choose the version that fits your workflow and camera compatibility.

Question: Will the Drop-In filter version work on a Sony FX9?
Answer: No. The Sony FX9 cannot use the E-Mount with Drop-In filters. For the FX9, select a compatible mount or the E-mount version without the Drop-In.

Question: Do I need to use a specific filter to achieve infinity focus?
Answer: Yes. You should use the Drop-In clear filter on RF, L, G and E mounts, and use the rear filter on PL-mount lenses to achieve infinity focus and clear images.

Question: Are these lenses easy to swap on a gimbal without rebalancing?
Answer: In practice, yes. The Athena Primes are similar in weight, which reduces the need to rebalance a gimbal when you switch lenses. However, always verify balance on your specific rig before shooting.

Question: What accessories are useful with this set?
Answer: Consider the NiSi 77mm close-up lens (sold separately) for macro effects, and use compatible follow focus and matte box systems since the lenses feature standard 0.8 mod gears and matched control rings.
