NiSi Cine Lens Set Athena Prime Master (8 Lenses) – Full-frame and large-format coverage with 46mm image circle

The NiSi Athena Cine Lenses kit provides a matched set of prime lenses for cinematographers and videographers. Designed with modern optical technologies, the set covers focal lengths from ultra-wide to portrait, giving you practical versatility for many shooting scenarios.

Focal lengths and aperture range

The set spans focal lengths from 14mm to 135mm. It covers a wide variety of shooting needs, from super-wide angle scenes to tight portrait framing. Aperture (T-stop) values vary by focal length and ensure consistent exposure control across the set:

  • 14mm — T2.4
  • 18mm — T2.2
  • 25mm — T1.9
  • 35mm — T1.9
  • 40mm — T1.9
  • 50mm — T1.9
  • 85mm — T1.9
  • 135mm — T2.2

Optical characteristics

The Athena Prime lenses provide an image circle of 46mm, which makes them suitable for full-frame and large-format sensors. In addition, the optics are engineered to deliver ultra-low chromatic aberration and controlled micro-contrast, resulting in finer image detail across the frame.

Focus behavior and control

NiSi designed the Athena Prime series to minimize focus breathing. Therefore, when you pull focus from minimum focus distance to infinity, the change in field of view is very small. This stability helps maintain composition during focus pulls.

Furthermore, all lenses feature a 300° focus rotation and fluorescent focus scales displayed in both imperial and metric units. These features support precise manual focus pulls and make the lenses convenient for professional follow-focus operation.

Mechanics and compatibility

The series uses standard 0.8 mod focus and iris gears, ensuring compatibility with common follow focus and matte box systems. Aperture and focus rings are matched across the range, which simplifies lens swaps during production.

All Athena lenses (except the 14mm) share the same 77mm front filter thread. Additionally, all lenses are similar in weight, so you do not need to rebalance your gimbal when switching between Athena lenses.

Rear filtration and mount options

The Athena Prime lenses include a proprietary rear filtration system with Drop-In filter mounting on several mounts. Mount options for the series include ARRI PL, Canon RF, Sony E, Panasonic/Leica L, and Fuji G. Specific filtration options are as follows:

  • RF, L and G mounts: Drop-In filter option available.
  • E-Mount: Available in two versions — with and without Drop-In filter.
  • PL-Mount: Utilizes a rear filter.

NiSi also supplies a weather-sealed option for the Drop-In filter to protect against environmental conditions.

Important operational notes

Note the following points to ensure correct operation and image quality:

  • Sony FX9 cameras cannot use the E-Mount version with Drop-In filters.
  • It is important to use the Drop-In clear filter on RF-, L- , G- and E-mount versions and the rear filter on PL-mount versions with the lens to achieve infinity focus and obtain clear images.

Accessories and optional items

NiSi offers a 77mm close-up lens to reduce minimum focus distance and create macro effects. This close-up lens is sold separately.

FAQ

  • Question: Are these lenses compatible with full-frame cameras?
Answer: Yes. The Athena Prime lenses provide a 46mm image circle, which makes them suitable for full-frame and large-format sensors.
  • Question: Do I need to use the Drop-In clear filter for correct focus?
Answer: Yes. For RF-, L-, G- and E-mount versions you should use the Drop-In clear filter, and for PL-mount use the rear filter, to achieve infinity focus and obtain clear images.
  • Question: Can I switch Athena lenses on a gimbal without rebalancing?
Answer: In most cases you can. All NiSi Athena Prime lenses are similar in weight, so they do not require rebalancing on a gimbal when switching between lenses.
  • Question: Is there a version of the E-mount with a Drop-In filter, and any limitations I should know about?
Answer: The E-mount is available in two versions: with and without a Drop-In filter. Note that the Sony FX9 camera cannot use the E-mount version with Drop-In filters.
  • Question: Can I use standard follow focus and matte box systems with these lenses?
Answer: Yes. The lenses use standard 0.8 mod focus and iris gears and have matched aperture and focus rings, so they work with common follow focus and matte box setups.
  • Question: Is there an accessory to reduce the minimum focus distance for macro work?
Answer: Yes. NiSi offers a 77mm close-up lens (sold separately) that can reduce minimum focus distance and create macro effects.
