NiSi 112mm ND8 (3 Stop) for Nikon Z 14-24mm f/2.8S – Screw-in fit for HB-97 hood, reduces light by 3 stops

Designed compatibility

This NiSi 112mm Circular ND8 (3 Stop) filter is designed specifically for the Nikon Z 14-24mm f/2.8S. It works with the screw-in design of the HB-97 lens hood that comes standard with that lens. Install the filter into the lens system that uses the HB-97 threaded hood for a direct fit.

What the ND8 (3 Stop) does

The NiSi 112mm Circular NC ND8 reduces the amount of light entering the camera by 3 stops. This darkening lets you use a wider aperture or a slower shutter speed than would otherwise be possible. By slowing your exposure or increasing aperture, you can control depth of field and convey motion, for example when capturing flowing water.

The ND8 3 Stop is commonly used for waterfalls and capturing water flow at shutter speeds from 0.5 seconds to 2 seconds.

Optical quality and coatings

The filter is made from high-quality optical glass and uses NiSi’s double-sided, multi-coating lens technology. It features a Nano coating to preserve detail and minimize reflections. The filter also has an exclusive “U” type anti-reflective Nano coating plus a hardened waterproof coating to protect the glass surface.

Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image. The product description also notes that the 1.8 density provides a 6 stop reduction in light from entering the lens. In addition, the filter includes an infrared protection coating layer to help eliminate infrared light that can cast an unwanted red color when shooting at small apertures.

Frame and construction

NiSi uses a precision brass frame for this 112mm filter. The frame is ultra-thin with knurling for handling and is milled from brass for accurate threading. The construction balances a slim profile with robust mounting for large-diameter lenses.

FAQ

Question: Will this filter fit my Nikon Z 14-24mm f/2.8S lens?
Answer: Yes. The NiSi 112mm Circular ND8 is designed to work with the screw-in design of the HB-97 lens hood that comes with the Nikon Z 14-24mm f/2.8S.

Question: How much light does the ND8 filter block and what can I achieve with it?
Answer: The ND8 reduces light by 3 stops, allowing you to use wider apertures or slower shutter speeds. Photographers commonly use this filter to capture flowing water, often at shutter speeds between 0.5 and 2 seconds, to convey motion and smooth water surfaces.

Question: Will the filter change the color of my images or introduce infrared cast?
Answer: Neutral density filters are designed not to affect image coloration. This NiSi filter includes an infrared protection coating layer to reduce unwanted red cast from infrared light when shooting at small apertures, and it features advanced coatings to preserve true-to-life color.

Question: What materials and coatings protect the filter glass?
Answer: The filter uses high-quality optical glass (H-K9L) with double-sided multi-coating and NiSi’s Nano coating. It also has an exclusive “U” type anti-reflective Nano coating and a hardened waterproof coating on both sides, while the frame is crafted from brass for precise threading and durability.
