What this filter does

The filter uses a 1.8 density (ND64) to darken the entire image, which lets you shoot with a wider aperture or a slower shutter speed than normally required. As a result, you can control depth of field and convey motion more easily. For example, photographers often use a 6-stop filter during the golden hour to create 1–2 minute exposures for smooth water or clouds. It also works well to capture dynamic water while retaining some texture before the golden hour.

Polarizing benefits

At the same time, the circular polarizer function helps reduce reflections and glare from non-metallic surfaces. Sunlight can become partially polarized after scattering from air molecules or reflecting off surfaces; this can create haze or unwanted reflections.
