The NiSi ND-Vario 1-5 Stops True Color 95mm is a variable neutral density filter that lets you control exposure steplessly from 1 to 5 EV. It delivers True Color to avoid the color shift that can occur with some other variable filters. The filter uses high-definition optical glass and a nano coating to combine optical clarity with easier cleaning and resistance to water and grease.
This filter gives you flexible exposure control and visible, repeatable settings. It includes mechanical features that help during fast or repeated adjustments, and it ships with protective accessories for safe storage.
Turn the filter to change the density continuously between 1 and 5 stops. Because the ND factor is stepless, you can fine-tune exposure without stepping between preset values. The front ring is visually marked with numbers that represent the different stop values, so you can return to the same setting reliably.
The front filter ring rotates to set the degree of density. You can use the included silver lever for quick adjustments, and you can remove that lever if you prefer direct ring rotation. The ring also has silver side knurlings to provide a secure grip for easy installation and removal.
Moreover, the filter includes built-in hard stops at each end of the turning range. These stops help you know “where you are” during action use and prevent over-rotation when you need quick, repeatable changes.
The ND-Vario suits both stills and motion work. For photography, you can use larger apertures or longer shutter speeds under bright conditions. For cinema and video, combined adjustments of aperture and this filter let you fine-tune depth of field while retaining your chosen frame rate.
In both cases, the True Color characteristic helps maintain accurate color rendering when reducing light, and the absence of the “X” effect ensures a clean image across the ND range.
The filter glass is high-definition optical glass for good resolution and image quality. NiSi applies an advanced nano coating to repel water, grease, and dirt, and to make the filter easier to clean. The filter ring is thin to reduce the risk of vignetting on wide-angle lenses, and it is machined from high-quality aluminum to remain both light and strong.
The ND-Vario ships with front protection and a small bag for storage. The optional rotating lever is included and can be removed if you prefer not to use it.
For best results, NiSi recommends using a variable ND filter on lenses with a focal length of 35 mm or more (full frame). At the same time, the thin filter ring and larger front thread are designed to reduce the risk of vignetting on wider lenses.

Question: Will this filter cause a color shift in my images?
Answer: The NiSi ND-Vario is designed to provide True Color and avoid the color shift commonly seen in some variable filters. This helps preserve accurate color rendering when you reduce exposure.
Question: Will I see the “X” pattern at high densities?
Answer: No. The product specification explicitly states that there is no “X” effect, so you should not see that pattern across the ND range.
Question: Can I remove the adjustment lever if I don’t need it?
Answer: Yes. The rotating silver lever is optional and can be removed if you prefer to set density by rotating the front ring directly.
Question: Is this filter suitable for wide-angle lenses?
Answer: The filter has a thin ring and a larger front thread designed to reduce the risk of vignetting on wider lenses. However, NiSi recommends using a variable ND filter on lenses with a focal length of 35 mm or more (full frame) for best results.
