This NiSi kit contains three stackable Swift System filters plus an adapter ring, front protection and a storage bag. You can use each filter on its own or combine them quickly by pushing them on the adapter ring. The kit supports variable exposure control and optional diffusion without complicated mounting.
Just push them on, simple as that! You can mount any Swift System filter directly on the adapter ring or stack filters together. For example, add the NiSi True Color VND 1–5 stops filter to the ND16 (4 stops) to create a wider variable ND range. Then you can place the Black Mist 1/4 in front of that combination if you want soft diffusion.
Specifically, when you pair the True Color VND 1–5 stops with the Swift ND16 (4 stop), the result is a combined variable ND of approximately 5–9 stops. You can also attach the Black Mist 1/4 either on top of that stack or directly on the VND filter for diffusion while maintaining exposure control.
This variable neutral density filter provides exposure reduction from 1 to 5 EV. You control the density steplessly by turning the filter. Additionally, the front ring includes built-in stops at the end positions so you know the range when shooting in action.
For repeatable control, the front ring is visually marked with numbers that represent different stop values. The ring also features silver side knurlings for a secure grip and easier installation or removal. Moreover, the filter accepts an optional rotating lever that helps you preset the density; this lever can be removed if you prefer.
The VND uses an advanced nano coating to repel water, grease and dirt and to make cleaning easier. A thin filter ring reduces the risk of vignetting on wide-angle lenses, and the ring itself is made from high-quality aluminum for lightness and strength. The filter aims for a true color result that avoids the color shift seen in some other variable filters, and it is designed to prevent the “X” effect sometimes found in variable ND filters.
The Swift System ND16 provides 4 stops of full-spectrum neutral density. It offers true color transmittance along with nano coating that is waterproof and antireflective. In addition, NiSi’s NEW Multi-Ti Coating improves scratch resistance and reduces glare.
The Black Mist 1/4 creates a soft, pastel-like quality of light by adding an extra layer of black specks. It produces only a small loss of detail compared to traditional diffusion filters. The Black Mist also features nano coating that is waterproof and antireflective.
Use the Swift adapter ring to attach the Swift Black Mist and Swift ND16 when you are not using the NiSi True Color VND 1–5 stops filter. The adapter ring enables the push-on Swift System workflow.
The kit includes a front protection piece and a compact bag for storing your filters. The NiSi Swift System kits are available in 67, 72, 77, 82 and 95mm sizes; this specific product is the 72mm kit.

Question: What is included in the NiSi Swift System VND / Black Mist Kit 72mm?
Answer: The kit includes a NiSi True Color VND 1–5 stops filter, a NiSi Swift System ND16 (4 stop), a NiSi Swift System Black Mist 1/4, a Swift adapter ring, a front protection piece and a small storage bag for the filters.
Question: How do I combine the filters to increase ND range?
Answer: Mount the True Color VND 1–5 stops together with the Swift ND16 (4 stop) to achieve approximately 5–9 stops of variable ND. You can then add the Black Mist 1/4 in front of that stack or attach it directly to the VND filter for diffusion.
Question: Will these filters cause vignetting on wide-angle lenses?
Answer: NiSi specifies lens coverage without vignetting: the VND alone is suitable down to 16mm (Full Frame); VND + ND16 down to 18mm; and VND + ND16 + Black Mist down to 20mm (Full Frame).
Question: Can I remove the rotating lever on the VND filter?
Answer: Yes. The VND includes an optional rotating lever that can be removed if you prefer to operate the front ring without it.
Question: How does the Black Mist affect image detail?
Answer: The Black Mist 1/4 creates a soft, pastel-like quality of light with an extra layer of black specks. It provides only a small loss of detail across the image compared to traditional diffusion filters, according to the product description.
