This NiSi Square Nano IRGND Hard 75x100mm is a hard graduated neutral density filter designed for landscape photographers. It creates a clear, defined transition between dark and transparent areas, which makes it ideal when the separation in your scene is obvious — for example, the horizon between sea and sky.
The filter uses high quality optical glass (not resin) and a nano coating to preserve detail. Because it is a neutral density filter, it does not affect the coloration of the image. You can reposition the filter in a holder to recompose the frame and place the transition exactly where you need it.
When using neutral density filters, the camera can become vulnerable to infrared light, which may cast an unwanted red colour in images when shooting at small apertures. NiSi added an infrared protection coating layer to this filter to help eliminate infrared light passing through the lens and to restore the natural colour of your photos.
These Nano IR Hard Graduated Neutral Density filters from NiSi in size 75x100 mm are available in the following maximum-effect stops:
Use this hard GND when your scene has a clearly defined boundary between bright and dark areas. Typical examples include seascapes with a straight horizon line or landscapes with a distinct skyline. Because the transition is sharp, you can place the dark portion over the bright sky while keeping foreground exposure normal.

Question: When should I choose a hard GND over a soft GND?
Answer: Choose a hard GND when the separation between bright and dark areas is clearly defined—such as a straight horizon or a distinct skyline. The hard edge gives a sharp transition that aligns with these types of boundaries.
Question: Will this filter change the colours in my photos?
Answer: Neutral density filters do not affect image coloration. In addition, this NiSi filter includes an infrared protection coating to reduce any infrared-induced red cast that can appear at small apertures, helping to keep colours natural.
Question: Can I adjust the position of the transition after mounting?
Answer: Yes. You can reposition the filter within a compatible holder to place the dark-to-clear boundary where you need it, which helps you recompose and fine-tune exposure balance between sky and foreground.
Question: What makes the surface easier to maintain in the field?
Answer: The nano coating on both sides repels water and oil, which helps keep the filter cleaner and simplifies wiping off fingerprints, moisture, or smudges when you’re shooting outdoors.
