NiSi’s Reverse Nano IR Graduated Neutral Density filter is built for landscape photographers who shoot sunrises and sunsets. It uses a reverse GND design, with the darkest area near the center that fades toward the top, to better control the intense light that often sits along the horizon line.
Reverse GND filters are a variation of hard-edge GNDs. However, this reverse design places the darkest band at the centre of the filter and gradually becomes clearer toward the top. Consequently, you can reduce overexposure at the horizon while keeping the lower part of the frame clear. This arrangement makes the filter particularly useful when the brightest light sits on or near the horizon during sunrise or sunset.
The filter is made from environmental optical lens glass (H-K9L), not resin. NiSi applies a nano coating on both sides, which repels water and oil and helps preserve fine detail. In addition, the filter includes an infrared protection coating to reduce unwanted infrared light that can cause a red cast when shooting at small apertures.
This Reverse Nano IR Graduated Neutral Density filter from NiSi in size 100x150 mm is available in the following maximum-effect aperture steps:

Question: What is a reverse GND and when should I use it?
Answer: A reverse GND has its darkest area near the centre that fades toward the top. Use it for sunrises and sunsets when the brightest area of the scene is on or very close to the horizon, to avoid overexposure along that line.
Question: Does this filter change colours in my images?
Answer: No. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image. The NiSi Reverse Nano IR GND is designed for ultra low color cast and includes coatings to keep colours natural.
Question: Can I reposition the filter once it’s in the holder?
Answer: Yes. The filter can be repositioned in a compatible holder so you can move the transition line to match your composition and achieve the best result.
Question: How does the infrared protection coating help my photos?
Answer: Infrared light can produce a red cast in photos shot at small apertures. The NiSi infrared protection coating reduces that infrared contamination, helping to preserve natural colours in those situations.
Question: Is the filter easy to clean?
Answer: The nano coating on both sides is water and oil repellent, which helps prevent smudges and makes cleaning easier compared with uncoated glass.
