NiSi Square Nano IRGND Reverse 150x170mm – Reverse GND for Sunrise and Sunset Control

This NiSi Square Nano IRGND Reverse 150x170mm filter gives landscape photographers precise control over bright horizons during sunrise and sunset. The reversed graduated neutral density (GND) design places the darkest area near the horizon and gradually lightens toward the top, helping to balance intense light at the horizon while keeping the lower frame clear.

What the Reverse GND does

The reverse GND is a hard-edge graduated neutral density filter where the dark area fades as you move from the line of separation toward the upper border of the filter. Photographers use this to manage scenes where the brightest light concentrates around the horizon line, such as sunrises and sunsets.

Build and coatings

NiSi made this filter from high quality optical glass, not resin. It uses Environmental Optical Lens glass (H-K9L) to maintain image detail. In addition, NiSi applied a nano coating on both sides of the glass to repel water and oil and to reduce reflections. The filter also includes an infrared protection coating layer to minimize unwanted red color cast caused by infrared light when shooting at small apertures.

How you use it

Place the filter in a compatible holder and reposition it to match the horizon or subject. Because the filter can be shifted within the holder, you can recompose the photo after setting the filter position to achieve the best result for each scene.

Smart FAQ

question: What is a reverse graduated neutral density filter and when should I use it?
Answer: A reverse GND has its darkest area near the horizon and becomes lighter toward the top. Use it when the brightest light concentrates at the horizon, such as during sunrises and sunsets, to prevent overexposure of the skyline while keeping the foreground unaffected.

question: Can I reposition this NiSi filter to match the horizon?
Answer: Yes. The filter is designed to be placed in a holder and can be repositioned within that holder so you can align the transition with the horizon and then recompose your shot for the best result.

question: Will this filter change my image colors?
Answer: Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image. Additionally, this NiSi filter includes an infrared protection coating to reduce the unwanted red cast from infrared light that can occur at small apertures.

question: What materials and coatings does this filter feature?
Answer: The filter is made from high quality optical glass (Environmental Optical Lens glass H-K9L), not resin. It has nano coatings on both sides for water and oil repellency and low reflection, plus an infrared protection coating layer to help preserve natural color.
