This NiSi Square Nano IR GND Reverse 150x170mm filter helps landscape photographers manage the intense light at the horizon during sunrises and sunsets. It uses a reverse graduated neutral density design: the darkest area sits near the centre line of the filter and fades toward the top while the bottom remains clear. You can reposition the filter in a holder to recompose your shot for the best result.
Use this reverse GND filter when the brightest light is concentrated at or near the horizon. For example, it suits sunrise and sunset scenes where the middle of the frame is often the brightest. Because the filter darkens the area around the horizon and then becomes progressively clearer toward the top, it helps retain detail in the sky while avoiding overexposure of the skyline.
NiSi made this filter from high quality optical glass (not resin). In addition, it carries a nano coating that helps preserve fine image detail. NiSi also added an infrared protection coating layer. This coating reduces infrared contamination that can otherwise cause unwanted red color casts, particularly when shooting at small apertures.
Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image. Therefore, this reverse GND filter preserves the natural color balance of your scene while reducing light in the brightest areas. The nano coatings and infrared protection further support accurate color rendering.
You can reposition the filter inside a compatible holder. This allows you to adjust the placement of the transition line relative to your composition, so you can protect the skyline while keeping the foreground and upper sky exposed as desired.

Question: When should I choose a reverse graduated ND instead of a standard graduated ND?
Answer: Choose a reverse GND when the brightest area of your scene sits near the horizon line, such as at sunrise or sunset. The reverse design places the darkest density at the centre and eases toward the top to better control horizon brightness without darkening the top of the sky excessively.
Question: Can I change the filter position after I mount it?
Answer: Yes. The filter can be repositioned in a compatible holder, which allows you to move the transition line to match your composition and protect the skyline or foreground as needed.
Question: Will this filter change the colors in my photos?
Answer: No. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image. Furthermore, NiSi applies nano coatings and an infrared protection layer to minimise color shifts and reduce unwanted red casts caused by infrared light, especially at small apertures.
Question: What are the main optical benefits of this NiSi filter?
Answer: The filter offers ultra low color cast and ultra low reflection, no vignetting, high definition performance, and nano coatings on both sides for water and oil repellence. It is made from high quality optical glass (H-K9L) rather than resin.
