This NiSi Reverse Graduated Neutral Density (GND) filter is built specifically to help landscape photographers control bright horizons during sunrise and sunset. It uses a reversed dark-to-clear design that places the strongest density near the horizon line, then fades toward the top of the filter. As a result, you can retain detail in the bright skyline while keeping the foreground properly exposed.
The reverse GND is essentially a hard-edge graduated neutral density filter with its darkest area centered around the horizon. Consequently, it manages scenes where the light intensity peaks at the horizon — such as sunrises and sunsets. Because the density fades toward the top of the glass and the bottom section remains clear, the filter prevents skyline overexposure while keeping foreground elements unaffected.
NiSi makes this filter from environmental optical lens glass (H-K9L), not resin, to preserve image detail. Also, NiSi applies nano coating on both sides to reduce reflections and help keep the glass clean. In addition, the filter includes an infrared protection coating designed to reduce unwanted infrared light that can cause red color casts at small apertures. Together, these features help maintain natural color and high definition in your images.
You can reposition this 75x100mm filter inside a compatible holder. Therefore, you can change the horizon placement and recompose the image without changing the filter itself. This flexibility helps you adapt quickly to different scenes and horizon heights during sunrise or sunset shoots.
The NiSi Square Nano IRGND Reverse 75x100 mm is available in these maximum-effect aperture steps:

Question: When should I use a reverse GND instead of a standard graduated ND?
Answer: Use a reverse GND when the brightest part of the scene lies at or very near the horizon, such as during sunrises and sunsets. The reverse density protects the skyline while leaving the foreground clear, which standard GNDs may not handle as effectively.
Question: Will this filter change the color of my photos?
Answer: Neutral density filters are designed not to affect image coloration. In addition, this NiSi filter includes an infrared protection coating to reduce infrared-induced red casts at small apertures, helping to preserve natural colors.
Question: Can I adjust the filter position during a shoot?
Answer: Yes. The 75x100mm reverse GND can be repositioned within a compatible holder so you can align the darker mid-band with the horizon and recompose as needed for the best result.
Question: What optical quality can I expect from this filter?
Answer: The filter uses environmental optical lens glass (H-K9L), not resin, combined with nano coatings on both sides to deliver high definition, very low color cast, and low reflections while remaining water and oil repellent.
