The NiSi Nano IR Soft Graduated Neutral Density filter (100x150 mm, GND2 0.3) reduces bright skies with a soft, gradual dark-to-clear transition. It is designed for landscape photographers and for scenes where the boundary between bright and dark areas is not well defined, such as mountainous terrain. The soft grad helps you control sky exposure while keeping foreground detail balanced.
The filter places a darker area at the top that gradually becomes clear toward the bottom. This gradual transition prevents overexposure of skies while preserving detail in mid and foreground areas. You can reposition the filter in a holder to recompose and fine-tune the transition for the best result.
This NiSi filter uses high-quality optical glass rather than resin. In addition, NiSi applies a nano coating on both sides to protect image detail and to repel water and oil. The filter also includes an infrared protection coating to reduce infrared contamination that can produce an unwanted red cast when shooting at small apertures. Together, these features help maintain natural colour rendering and image clarity.
Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image. Instead, they reduce the amount of light reaching the sensor. However, ND filters can allow infrared light to affect photos at small apertures; the NiSi Nano IR layer helps eliminate that infrared light so colours remain natural.
NiSi's Nano IR Soft Graduated Neutral Density filters in this series are available across a range of maximum effects. Options include:

Question: How do I use this soft graduated filter in the field?
Answer: Mount the 100x150 mm filter in a compatible holder and slide it up or down to position the soft transition where it best balances the sky and foreground. Repositioning allows you to recompose while keeping the desired exposure for the sky.
Question: Why does NiSi include an infrared protection coating?
Answer: ND filters can increase the camera’s sensitivity to infrared light at small apertures, which may produce a red cast. The Nano IR layer reduces that infrared contamination and helps restore natural colour rendering.
Question: What are the advantages of optical glass over resin for this filter?
Answer: NiSi uses high-quality optical glass (H-K9L) rather than resin to preserve image detail and deliver high definition. The glass combined with nano coatings supports low colour cast and low reflection performance.
Question: Is the filter easy to maintain outdoors?
Answer: Yes. The nano coating on both sides provides water and oil repellency, making it easier to clean and maintain in outdoor shooting conditions while protecting image quality.
