The NiSi Nano IR Soft Graduated Neutral Density (GND) filter is designed for landscape photographers who need a subtle, soft transition between dark and clear areas. The top of the filter is darker and it gradually clears toward the bottom, helping prevent overexposed skies in scenes where the horizon or transition between light and dark is not sharp. A typical use case is mountain landscapes where tones change gradually.
This filter is made from high quality optical glass (not resin). NiSi applies a nano coating to maintain detail and reduce unwanted reflections. The filter does not change the color balance of your image because neutral density filters do not affect coloration. In addition, NiSi added an infrared protection coating to reduce infrared light that can cause a red color cast when shooting at small apertures.
You mount the 100 x 150 mm filter in a compatible holder and you can reposition it within the holder to recompose the photo for the best result. The soft transition design suits scenes with unclear or gradual transitions between sky and foreground, such as mountainous terrain or layered landscapes.

Question: What scenes suit a soft graduated ND filter?
Answer: Use a soft graduated ND when the transition between bright sky and darker foreground is gradual or irregular, for example in mountainous or layered landscapes where a hard line would look unnatural.
Question: Will this filter change the color of my images?
Answer: Neutral density filters do not affect coloration. This NiSi filter is made from optical glass and includes coatings that help keep color shifts to a minimum.
Question: Why does the filter have infrared protection?
Answer: At small apertures cameras can become vulnerable to infrared light, which may introduce a red color cast. The IR protection coating reduces that infrared transmission and helps retain natural colors.
Question: Can I adjust the transition area after mounting?
Answer: Yes. The 100 x 150 mm filter can be repositioned in a compatible holder so you can recompose and place the graduated transition where it best suits the scene.
