The NiSi Nano IR Soft Graduated Neutral Density (GND) filter 100x150mm is made for landscape photographers who need a smooth transition between bright skies and darker foregrounds. The filter darkens the top and gradually clears toward the bottom to prevent overexposure of skies. You can use it when the transition between light and dark areas is not sharply defined, for example in mountainous scenes.
The soft grad design provides a gradual dark-to-clear transition that helps control bright skies without creating a hard line across the image. Furthermore, you can reposition the filter in the holder. This allows you to recompose and place the transition where you need it in the frame for the best visual balance.
NiSi manufactures this filter from high quality optical glass (not resin). In addition, the glass receives a nano coating to protect detail and reduce reflections. The nano coating is applied on both sides, and it also provides water and oil repellency for easier cleaning in the field.
Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image. However, when you reduce light with ND filtration at small apertures, camera sensors can become vulnerable to infrared light and produce an unwanted red cast. NiSi added an infrared protection coating layer to this filter to help eliminate infrared transmission through the lens and to restore more natural color reproduction.
The NiSi Nano IR Soft GND filters in 100x150mm are available in the following maximum-effect steps: 1 stop, 2 stop, 3 stop, 4 stop and 5 stop. The product name here is GND8 0.9; refer to the available stop options when choosing the strength suited to your scenes.

Question: Can I adjust where the dark-to-clear transition appears in the frame?
Answer: Yes. This soft GND filter can be repositioned in the holder, allowing you to move the transition to the best spot for your composition.
Question: Will this filter change the colors in my images?
Answer: Neutral density filters do not intrinsically alter image coloration. Moreover, the NiSi Nano IR version includes an infrared protection coating to reduce IR-induced red casts and help preserve natural colors.
Question: What kind of scenes benefit most from a soft graduated ND?
Answer: Use this soft grad when the boundary between bright and dark areas is gradual rather than sharp—for example, mountainous landscapes or scenes with hazy or uneven horizons—where a smooth transition avoids an obvious line across the image.
Question: Which density should I choose for my work?
Answer: The 100x150mm NiSi Nano IR Soft GND series is available in 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 stop options. Choose the stop that provides the exposure reduction you need for the sky relative to the foreground, based on the dynamic range in your scene.
