The NiSi Square Nano IRGND Soft 150x170mm GND16 1.2 is a soft graduated neutral density filter created for landscape photographers who need to control bright skies while keeping foreground detail. It places a darker area at the top that graduates smoothly to clear at the bottom, which helps prevent sky overexposure in scenes with subtle transitions between light and dark areas.
This filter works well when the boundary between sky and land is not distinct, for example in mountainous areas. You can reposition the filter in a holder to recompose the photo until you achieve the best visual balance between sky and foreground.
The filter offers neutral density behavior without affecting the coloration of the image. In addition, it features ultra low color cast and ultra low reflection for high definition results. The design also avoids vignetting, keeping the image corners consistent.
The Nano IR Soft Graduated Neutral Density filters in this series are available in multiple aperture-step strengths so you can choose the level of darkening that suits your scene.
| Specification | Details |
|---|---|
| Product | NiSi Square Nano IRGND Soft 150x170mm |
| Type | Soft Graduated Neutral Density (GND) |
| Model / Marking | GND16 1.2 |
| Size | 150 x 170 mm |
| Available density steps | 2 stop, 3 stop, 4 stop, 5 stop |
| Glass material | Environmental Optical Lens glass (H-K9L) |

| Optical notes | Ultra low color cast, ultra low reflection, high definition, no vignetting |
Mount the filter in a suitable square filter holder and slide it up or down to position the soft graduated transition where you need it. Because the filter can be repositioned, you can recompose after placing it to refine the balance between sky and foreground.
Question: Which scenes benefit most from a soft graduated ND?
Answer: Soft graduated NDs perform best when the transition between bright sky and darker foreground is gradual or uneven, such as in mountainous landscapes or scenes with rolling terrain. They let you darken the sky without introducing a hard line across the image.
Question: Will this filter change the colors in my photos?
Answer: Neutral density filters in this series are designed not to affect image coloration. Additionally, the NiSi infrared protection coating helps reduce any red cast caused by infrared light at small apertures, preserving natural colors.
Question: Can I reposition the filter once it’s mounted?
Answer: Yes. The square filter can be repositioned in a filter holder so you can adjust the graduated transition and recompose the shot for the best result.
Question: Is this filter made of glass or resin, and how does that affect image quality?
Answer: This NiSi filter is made from high quality optical glass (not resin). Glass construction combined with nano coatings helps maintain fine detail, reduce reflections, and improve overall image definition.
