This NiSi Square Nano IRGND Soft 75x100mm filter places a dark area at the top that gradually transitions to clear at the bottom. It prevents overexposure of skies and works well when the transition between bright and dark areas is not sharply defined. For example, you can use it when photographing mountainous landscapes where sky brightness blends into terrain.
The filter uses a soft graduation, which helps you balance exposure across a scene with a gradual light change. You can reposition the filter in a holder to recompose the image and align the graduated transition precisely with the horizon or subject. This repositioning lets you adjust the effect without changing camera settings.
NiSi made this filter from high quality optical glass rather than resin and specified Environmental Optical Lens glass (H-K9L). In addition, the filter features nano coating on both sides to help preserve detail and reduce reflections. The nano coating also provides water and oil repellency for easier cleaning and better durability in the field.
Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image. However, cameras can become vulnerable to infrared light when shooting at small apertures, producing an unwanted red cast. NiSi added an infrared protection coating layer to this filter to help eliminate infrared contamination and restore natural color reproduction.
These NiSi Nano IR soft graduated neutral density filters in 75x100 mm format are available in different strength steps for varying light control. The product line includes options for 2 stop and 3 stop maximum effect, allowing you to choose the density that matches the scene’s dynamic range.

Question: When should I use a soft graduated ND like this one?
Answer: Use it when the brightness transition in your scene is gradual rather than sharp — for example, skies over mountains or scenes where the horizon is irregular. The soft transition helps you balance exposure without producing a clear line in the image.
Question: Will this filter change my colors or introduce a cast?
Answer: Neutral density filters do not affect image coloration by design. Additionally, the NiSi Nano IR version includes an infrared protection coating that helps eliminate infrared-induced red casts when shooting at small apertures.
Question: Can I adjust the effect after mounting?
Answer: Yes. You can reposition the filter within a compatible holder to align the graduated area with your scene. This allows you to recompose without changing camera settings and to fine-tune the transition placement.
Question: What material is the filter made of and how is it protected?
Answer: The filter is made from high quality Environmental Optical Lens glass (H-K9L), not resin. It features nano coating on both sides for reduced reflection and preserved detail, plus water and oil repellency and an infrared protection layer to maintain natural colors.
