This Leica DG MACRO-ELMARIT 45mm f/2.8 lens for Micro Four Thirds delivers high image quality with compact mobility. It follows Leica’s strict standards to reduce distortion, chromatic aberration, ghosts and flare. The optical design balances performance and size, making the lens suitable for close-up macro work and general shooting with a small system camera.
The lens uses 14 elements in 10 groups, including an aspherical lens and an ED (extra-low dispersion) lens. This combination minimizes distortion and chromatic aberration while keeping the lens compact thanks to the Micro Four Thirds system standard. In addition, multi-coated lens elements reduce ghosts and flare to preserve contrast and color fidelity.
Panasonic’s MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) reduces blur caused by hand-shake. As a result, you can capture sharply focused macro shots or work in dimly lit locations more easily without always needing a tripod. The stabilizer helps maintain clarity in both stills and practical shooting scenarios.
The lens incorporates an inner focus direct-drive linear motor and a stepping motor. The inner focus uses a three-group floating structure to maintain excellent resolution and contrast from full life-size magnification to infinity, without changing the lens’s overall length. The stepping motor makes focusing smooth and quiet, which benefits both photo and movie recording. Note: some noise may still be recorded in motion picture mode depending on the recording environment.
You can switch the closest focusing distance instantly between 15 cm and 50 cm (0.5 ft to 1.64 ft) using the dedicated switch on the lens barrel. This quick change lets you adapt to different shooting opportunities without changing lenses or complex adjustments.
When mounted on a LUMIX G Micro System camera, the lens supports the advanced contrast AF system. This includes Face Recognition for more convenient and reliable focusing when shooting portraits or subjects that benefit from subject-detection autofocus.
The aperture uses seven blades to form a rounded shape. This rounded aperture produces a smooth out-of-focus rendering at wider apertures, improving background blur for pleasing bokeh. The lens also features a highly reliable metal mount for secure attachment to the camera body.

Question: Can I use this lens handheld for macro photography?
Answer: Yes. The lens includes MEGA O.I.S., which helps reduce blur from hand-shake and makes handheld macro shooting and low-light shooting more practical without a tripod.
Question: Is the autofocus quiet enough for video?
Answer: The lens uses a stepping motor for smooth and quiet focusing suitable for both stills and movies. However, some focusing noise may still be recorded in motion picture mode depending on the recording environment.
Question: How do I change close-focus distances quickly?
Answer: Use the switch on the lens barrel to toggle the closest focusing distance between 15 cm and 50 cm (0.5 ft to 1.64 ft), allowing fast adaptation to different shooting situations.
Question: Will this lens work with LUMIX G cameras’ AF features?
Answer: Yes. When mounted on a LUMIX G Micro System camera, the lens supports the advanced contrast AF system, including Face Recognition for more convenient and reliable autofocus performance.
