The Samyang AF 12mm f/2.0 for Fuji X offers a bright ultra-wide view designed for landscape, travel, interior design and architectural photography. With an f/2.0 maximum aperture, it also performs well for astrophotography, letting you capture starry skies even when shooting wide open.
Samyang updated its long-loved MF 12mm f/2.0 into this AF version to add modern autofocus functionality and a refreshed design. The lens retains the optical character that made the manual-focus model popular, while adding rapid autofocus for easier handheld and dynamic shooting.
The lens uses a 12-element, 10-group optical layout that includes five special glass elements: one H-ASP, one ASP, and three ED elements. These extra-low dispersion and aspherical elements help minimize chromatic aberrations and distortion, producing sharper images from center to edge.
In addition, Samyang applied UMC (Ultra Multi Coating) to the lens elements. This coating reduces surface reflections, helps prevent flare and ghosting, and improves light transmission and contrast for cleaner results in challenging light.
The AF 12mm is compact and light. It weighs only 213g and measures just 59.2mm in length, striking a balance between portability and optical performance. The housing is all metal and the lens is weather-sealed, so you can use it in harsh conditions with added confidence.

Question: Is this lens suitable for astrophotography?
Answer: Yes. The bright f/2.0 aperture combined with the lens’ optical design and UMC coating makes it well suited for astrophotography, allowing you to capture starry skies even when shooting wide open.
Question: How does this AF version differ from the older MF 12mm model?
Answer: The AF 12mm adds an autofocus system and a modernized design while preserving the optical qualities of the original MF version. It aims to retain edge-to-edge sharpness and star-friendly performance with the convenience of rapid autofocus.
Question: Is the lens easy to carry for travel and outdoor use?
Answer: Yes. Weighing only 213g and measuring 59.2mm in length, the lens is compact and lightweight, making it practical for travel, hiking, and general outdoor shooting.
Question: Will the lens stand up to rough weather conditions?
Answer: The lens features an all-metal housing and weather-sealing, which helps protect it in harsh weather. This design gives added durability and reliability when shooting outdoors.
Question: What optical features reduce aberrations and distortion?
Answer: The optical design integrates three extra-low dispersion (ED) elements and two aspherical elements (H-ASP and ASP). These components work together to minimize chromatic aberrations and distortion for clearer, sharper images across the frame.
