The Tamron 150-500mm F/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD for FUJI X (APS-C) is built for action sports, wildlife and bird photography. It reaches an ultra-telephoto focal length equivalent to 750mm on APS-C cameras, giving you the reach needed for distant subjects. At the same time, the lens remains compact for its class, making handheld use and transport easier.
Despite its long reach, the lens stays relatively compact. When retracted at the wide end, it measures 209.9mm in length and has a maximum diameter of 93mm. Even fully extended to the telephoto end, the lens length is only 284.9mm, so you can still handle it comfortably during shoots.
Tamron designed the lens with practical handling features. You get a Flex Zoom Lock that lets you lock the lens at any zoom position by sliding the zoom ring back and forth, preventing unintended barrel movement. Additionally, a conventional zoom lock switch prevents the barrel from sliding down while carrying the lens. The lens includes an Arca-Swiss compatible quick release and a grip shaped for easy holding. The grip uses magnesium to reduce weight and includes a strap attachment hole.
The lens uses Tamron’s VXD AF linear focus motor. This mechanism delivers high-speed, high-precision focus movement and provides fast, comfortable focusing across the zoom range. Tamron also improved focus tracking to better capture fast-moving subjects, which is useful for sporting events, birds and wildlife. The linear motor reduces drive noise and vibration, helping when you shoot video or work in low-noise environments.
Image stabilization comes from Tamron’s VC (Vibration Compensation) system. You can choose between three VC modes: Mode 1 (Standard), Mode 2 (for panning), and Mode 3 (Framing Priority). These settings help reduce image blur caused by camera shake and support longer handheld shooting sessions.
The lens has an optical construction of 25 elements in 16 groups. That includes one XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) element, five LD (Low Dispersion) elements, and two Hybrid Aspherical elements to control various aberrations, including axial chromatic aberration. Tamron applies its BBAR-G2 coating to suppress ghosting and flare so that images retain strong detail and contrast across the frame.
Although this model is listed for FUJI X (APS-C), the design also reflects Tamron’s approach to full-frame mirrorless lens performance, delivering high image quality across the zoom range and aiming for strong center-to-edge performance.
The lens offers moisture-resistant construction and a fluorine coating on the front element for protection in harsh weather. The supplied lens hood has a flexible, protective front to guard the front element.
The lens provides a Minimum Object Distance (MOD) of 0.6m at the 150mm wide end and 1.8m at the 500mm telephoto end. An MF SPEED switch makes manual focusing faster and more convenient when needed. The lens also includes a tripod mount option; note the specified weights below with and without the tripod mount attached.

Question: Is this lens suitable for bird and wildlife photography?
Answer: Yes. The 150-500mm range (approx. 750mm equivalent on APS-C) and improved focus tracking make it well suited for birds and wildlife where reach and subject tracking are important.
Question: How does the image stabilization work for handheld shots?
Answer: The lens uses Tamron’s VC system with three selectable modes (Standard, Panning, Framing Priority). These modes help reduce camera shake during handheld shooting and provide options tailored to different shooting techniques.
Question: Can I use the lens in wet conditions?
Answer: The lens features moisture-resistant construction and a fluorine-coated front element to help protect the optics in harsh weather, though care is still recommended in heavy rain.
Question: What focusing performance can I expect for video?
Answer: The VXD linear focus motor offers high-speed, precise focusing with reduced drive noise and vibration, which benefits both stills and video, especially in low-noise environments.
Question: How do I get the extended 5-year warranty?
Answer: Register the lens within 2 months of purchase at Tamron’s registration page: https://5years.tamron.eu/ to qualify for the 5-year warranty and review the full terms and conditions.
