Tamron presents the 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 DI III RXD designed specifically for Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras. It is the world’s smallest and lightest telephoto zoom lens for Sony E-mount and brings true telephoto reach in a compact package.
Weighing 545g, this lens gives you the flexibility to shoot telephoto subjects without the bulk normally associated with long lenses. Consequently, you can carry it easily on outdoor shoots, sports events, wildlife excursions or portrait sessions. Furthermore, Tamron developed this lens to offer easy and enjoyable telephoto shooting for both enthusiastic hobbyists and professional photographers.
The lens construction consists of 15 elements in 10 groups. In addition, Tamron includes an LD (Low Dispersion) element to reduce axial chromatic and other aberrations. Together with Tamron’s BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coating, the optical design aims to reduce reflections and improve overall image quality.
The lens features seals at the lens mount area and at other critical locations to help prevent the infiltration of moisture and dust. This adds protection when you shoot outdoors under challenging conditions.
For autofocus, Tamron uses the RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) motor. This AF drive is exceptionally quiet and supports several Sony camera features, including in-body image stabilization, Eye AF, direct manual focus (DMF) and fast hybrid AF. The lens also shares the same uniform 67mm filter diameter as other Tamron full-frame mirrorless lenses for Sony E.
This telephoto zoom suits photographers who need reach without significant weight or size. Use cases include sports, wildlife, and portraiture where a compact, lightweight telephoto lens makes it easier to react and compose quickly. It also suits travelers and outdoor shooters who prioritize portability.
