The Think Tank DarkLight Backpack 20L is built for photographers who move between urban environments and field deployments. It combines modular attachment options with access and comfort features so you can configure, carry, and use your camera gear efficiently on the go.
The front panel includes a laser-cut MOLLE panel that provides attachment points for capacity expansion and flexibility. In addition, tactical webbing rails on the sides enable you to attach Think Tank modular pouches to increase carrying capacity and organise gear by task.
You can access your camera gear through the back panel without taking the bag off. This design lets you work out of the bag while keeping the pack against your back for security. As a result, your gear stays protected and less exposed when you travel.
The DarkLight Backpack includes a plush, air mesh-covered harness system and an airmesh covered lumbar support and rear panel to help control moisture and provide comfort during long carries. You’ll find multiple pockets and quick-access spaces for small items.
The DarkLight 20L has dedicated pockets for tablets and laptops. The front pocket fits a 10” tablet, while the back panel can accommodate up to a 16” MacBook Pro, allowing you to carry a mix of camera gear and computing devices on the same trip.
The right side pocket uses a web cinch to hold a water bottle or a compact tripod. Upper and lower compression straps with SR buckles secure taller items so they stay stable while you move.
Adjustable dividers let you organise a combination of camera bodies, telephoto lenses, and personal items. The bag uses high-quality YKK RC zippers with ergonomic zipper pulls for easy grip even with gloves. All materials are treated with a PFC-free DWR-0 coating for water resistance, and a rain cover is included for heavy downpours.
The rear panel features a luggage handle pass-through so you can secure the bag to rolling luggage. The DarkLight 20L includes a padded removable waist belt for added support; note that the 14L model uses 1.5” webbing for its removable waist belt instead.
The bag can carry multiple camera bodies and a selection of lenses depending on your setup. Below are the stated capacity notes and several real-world examples to help you plan gear combinations.

Question: How does back-panel access improve security and usability?
Answer: Back-panel access lets you retrieve gear while the bag stays on your back, which reduces exposure in crowded areas and allows you to work quickly without removing the pack. It also keeps the weight close to your body for better balance.
Question: Can I add extra pouches and organise more gear?
Answer: Yes. The laser-cut MOLLE panel and tactical webbing rails accept Think Tank modular pouches so you can expand capacity and configure your loadout to match a mission or a shoot.
Question: What devices fit in the 20L model?
Answer: The front pocket fits a 10” tablet and the rear panel can hold up to a 16” MacBook Pro, allowing you to carry both camera gear and a laptop or tablet for processing and backup.
Question: Is the pack suitable for travel and carry-on?
Answer: The bag meets most international and U.S. carry-on requirements and will fit under most airline seats. However, airline rules change, so please check with your airline for current carry-on requirements.
Question: What weather protection does the bag offer?
Answer: Materials are treated with a PFC-free DWR-0 coating for water resistance, and a rain cover is included for heavy downpours, offering additional protection when conditions worsen.
