The Samyang XEEN CF 16mm T2.6 in Sony E mount is part of the XEEN CF series of full-frame cinema lenses. It joins the new pair of lenses that complete the XEEN CF lineup and brings a compact, lightweight carbon-fiber design to filmmakers who need wide-angle coverage for large-format cameras and 8K workflows.
XEEN CF was first introduced in late 2019 with 24mm, 50mm and 85mm T1.5 lenses. CF stands for “Carbon Fiber” and “Compact and Flexible,” highlighting the lenses’ lighter, compact construction and versatile use. The XEEN CF series received the iF Design Award 2020 for its compact and lightweight design that maximizes usability.
The 16mm T2.6 and 35mm T1.5 complete the XEEN CF family. Compared to earlier XEEN models, the new CF lenses are approximately 20% lighter. As a result, they are easier to use on gimbals and drones that favor compact, lightweight optics. At the same time, these lenses are designed to cover large-format sensors and to meet the demands of 8K resolution recording.
The XEEN CF lenses deliver soft, smooth and dreamy bokeh when used wide open and sharpen noticeably when stopped down. The X-coating helps manage internal reflections to preserve image contrast and to shape highlights for a cinematic look. The 11-blade iris maintains roundness in out-of-focus highlights.
This 16mm T2.6 model comes in three mounts: Canon EF, Sony E and PL. The Sony E version suits mirrorless systems that accept the E mount, while the series’ consistent ring layout and geared design make it easy to swap lenses across a shoot and maintain repeatable rigging on follow focus and support systems.

Question: Is the XEEN CF 16mm T2.6 suitable for gimbal and drone use? Answer: Yes. The XEEN CF lenses are approximately 20% lighter than their predecessors, which makes them easier to use on gimbals and drones that require compact, lightweight lenses.
Question: Will this lens cover large-format sensors and 8K cameras? Answer: Yes. The XEEN CF 16mm T2.6 is designed for 8K resolution and covers an image circle up to 43.3mm, making it suitable for large-format sensors.
Question: Which mounts are available for this lens? Answer: The XEEN CF series, including the 16mm T2.6, is available in Canon EF, Sony E and PL mounts. This listing is for the Sony E mount version.
Question: How does the lens handle highlights and reflections? Answer: The lens uses X-coating to control internal reflections, which helps produce a distinctive look and preserve contrast while shaping highlights for dramatic images.
Question: Are the focus and aperture controls standardized across the series? Answer: Yes. Focus and aperture ring locations are uniform across XEEN CF models. The gears and weighting have been improved for smooth rotation and consistent handling, and a 200-degree focus rotation allows precise adjustments.
Question: Will I be able to use matte boxes and work in low light? Answer: Yes. The lens has a standard Ø95mm front size compatible with matte boxes. Bright apertures across the series (T1.5 and T2.6) support low-light shooting, and luminous paint on model and distance markings aids operation in very dark environments.
