A step-up ring allows you to mount a filter that has a larger thread than your lens has.
If you have a 77mm lens thread and want to mount an 82mm filter, you need a NISI STEP-UP ADAPTER RING TI 77-82MM.
The first number indicates which filter thread your lens has, and the second number the thread your filter has.
