The Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Mini Monitor 12G is a professional Thunderbolt 4-based video playback device that lets you play back true broadcast-quality video directly from your computer to 12G-SDI and HDMI. It is designed for professional video editing, color grading, broadcast graphics, and monitoring in DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, and many other applications. With support for SD, HD, and Ultra HD up to 2160p60, dual 12G-SDI outputs for Fill & Key, and 10-bit video output, the UltraStudio Mini Monitor 12G is the perfect tool for professional post-production environments and live productions.
The UltraStudio Mini Monitor 12G connects via a single Thunderbolt 4 cable that transmits both data and power. The high bandwidth enables the playback of uncompressed video with very low latency and support for advanced color formats, providing accurate monitoring during editing and color correction.
The device features both 12G-SDI and HDMI outputs, making it compatible with professional reference monitors, production switchers, video monitors, and TV screens. Multi-rate 12G-SDI supports SD, HD, 3G-SDI, 6G-SDI, and 12G-SDI without the need for external converters.
Two independent 12G-SDI outputs allow you to send separate Fill and Key signals to a production switcher. The alpha channel is automatically converted to a dedicated key signal, making the UltraStudio Mini Monitor 12G ideal for graphics, titles, lower thirds, logos, and stingers in professional broadcast productions.
The UltraStudio Mini Monitor 12G is optimized for DaVinci Resolve, where it provides accurate video playback during editing, color correction, and delivery. It also works excellently with Resolve Cut Page, where graphics with an alpha channel can be played directly to a production switcher.
Since UltraStudio Mini uses Blackmagic’s proven Desktop Video driver and DeckLink API, it works with most professional video applications. Compatible applications include DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, Fusion, and many other professional video production solutions.
UltraStudio Mini Monitor 12G supports true 10-bit video, which provides significantly higher color accuracy than traditional 8-bit video. The result is smooth color transitions, better chroma keying, higher-quality color correction, and maximum image accuracy throughout the entire production chain.
The unit supports all common TV standards, from SD all the way up to Ultra HD 2160p60. This makes it suitable for international production environments where multiple image formats are used and where future upgrades can be easily performed via software.
Its compact size makes the UltraStudio Mini Monitor 12G easy to use both in the studio and on location. It fits in a laptop bag alongside a laptop and requires only a Thunderbolt cable to be ready for use.
Whether you’re working on color correction, broadcast graphics, TV production, live broadcasts, or professional video editing, the UltraStudio Mini Monitor 12G delivers accurate monitoring and the highest possible video quality. The combination of Thunderbolt 4, 12G-SDI, HDMI, and support for all modern video standards makes it a future-proof tool for demanding production environments.

The UltraStudio Mini Monitor 12G is used for professional video playback from a Thunderbolt computer to 12G-SDI and HDMI monitors. It is primarily used for video editing, color correction, broadcast graphics, and professional monitoring.
No. The Mini Monitor 12G is a playback-only device. For video recording, consider the Blackmagic UltraStudio Mini Recorder 12G or the UltraStudio Mini Replay 12G instead.
The device supports SD, HD, and Ultra HD up to 2160p60 via both HDMI and 12G-SDI.
Fill & Key means that two separate SDI signals are transmitted simultaneously—a video signal (Fill) and an alpha channel (Key). This is used in professional production switchers for graphics, titles, logos, and other transparent image elements.
The device works with most professional video software, including DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, Adobe After Effects, Fusion, and other software that supports the Blackmagic Desktop Video driver.
No. The UltraStudio Mini Monitor 12G is powered via the Thunderbolt connection, making setup quick and easy with just a single cable to the computer.
Yes. The true 10-bit video output, combined with support for professional video standards, makes it ideal for precise monitoring during color grading in software such as DaVinci Resolve.
The UltraStudio Mini Monitor 12G is designed for video playback from a computer to external monitors and switchers, while the UltraStudio Mini Recorder 12G is used to record video from HDMI or SDI sources to a computer. If you need both recording and playback at the same time, the UltraStudio Mini Replay 12G is the right choice.
