This SmallRig 5486 Turbo Charging Kit includes two high-performance EN-EL15c-compatible batteries and a dual-channel fast charger. It uses a full decoding chip to ensure compatibility with Nikon EN-EL15c batteries, so your camera recognises the batteries and you avoid pop-up warnings. In addition, the kit supports in-camera power display and remains compatible with the original Nikon charger.
The dual-slot charger charges two batteries at once or charges a single battery when only one is present. For efficiency, the charger can fully charge two batteries in approximately 2 hours under suitable power conditions. Each battery provides a true-rated output of 1940mAh, which delivers extended shooting time for longer shoots and demanding workflows.
The charger uses intelligent circuitry to provide multiple safety protections. It monitors both temperature and voltage. When the charger detects overheating, it automatically slows the charge rate. Likewise, it cuts off power in case of overvoltage and uses trickle charging near full capacity to preserve battery health.
Each charging channel features five LED indicators. These LEDs display power levels in 20% increments so you can see the charge status at a glance. The indicators operate even without external power. In addition, a red warning light activates when battery levels are critically low, helping you spot depleted batteries quickly.
The charger includes a universal USB-C input port and ships with a fast-charging USB-C cable. Therefore, you can use wall adapters, car chargers, or power banks to charge the batteries, offering flexible options on location or in the studio.
The charger and kit hold FCC, CE, RoHS, and ISED certifications. For best performance, SmallRig recommends using a power adapter with a 22.5W or higher output. If you use a 5V / 2.4A adapter, the charger will operate in slow-charge mode and will prioritise charging the battery in Channel 1 first, then automatically switch to Channel 2 once Channel 1 is fully charged.

Question: Will these batteries show accurate charge levels in my Nikon camera?
Answer: Yes. The kit’s full decoding chip ensures compatibility with Nikon EN-EL15c batteries and supports in-camera power display so your camera can show the battery level.
Question: How long does it take to fully charge two batteries?
Answer: Under appropriate power conditions (for example using a 22.5W or higher adapter), the dual-channel charger can fully charge two batteries in approximately 2 hours. If you use a lower-power adapter such as 5V / 2.4A, the charger will switch to slow-charge mode and prioritise Channel 1 before charging Channel 2.
Question: Can I charge these batteries from a power bank or car charger?
Answer: Yes. The charger uses a USB-C input and includes a fast-charging cable, so you can use wall adapters, car chargers, and power banks for flexible charging options.
Question: What protections does the charger offer to protect my batteries?
Answer: The charger monitors temperature and voltage, slows charging during overheating, cuts off power in case of overvoltage, and uses trickle charging near full capacity to preserve battery health. It also provides multiple built-in safety protections through its intelligent circuitry.
