SmallRig 5491 Camera Battery Charger for EN-EL15c – Dual-slot fast charging for Nikon EN-EL15c batteries

The SmallRig 5491 charger guarantees full compatibility with Nikon EN-EL15c batteries and charges both original and third-party batteries. It uses a dual-slot design that lets you charge two batteries at the same time or a single battery when needed. For efficiency, the charger can fully charge two batteries in approximately 2 hours when using an appropriate power source.

Clear battery status with multi-segment LED indicators

Each charging channel features five LED indicators that show power levels in 20% increments. These LEDs report battery status even when the charger does not have external power connected. In addition, a red warning light activates when battery levels are critically low, giving you a visible prompt to recharge before use.

USB-C input and versatile charging options

The charger includes a universal USB-C input port and ships with a fast-charging USB-C to USB-C cable. Therefore, you can power it with wall adapters, car chargers, or power banks for flexible on-location or studio charging. For best performance, SmallRig recommends using a power adapter with 22.5W or higher output.

Please note: the charger is not compatible with 5V / 1A power adapters. When you use a 5V / 2.4A adapter, the charger operates in a slow-charge mode. In that slow mode, it will prioritize charging the battery in Channel 1 first and will automatically switch to Channel 2 once Channel 1 is fully charged.

Intelligent circuitry and battery protection

SmallRig built the 5491 with intelligent charging circuitry that provides multiple safety protections. The charger monitors temperature and voltage and responds automatically: it slows down charging during overheating, cuts off power in case of overvoltage, and switches to trickle charging as batteries near full capacity. These behaviors help preserve battery health while protecting both the charger and the batteries.

FAQ

Question: Can this charger be used with third-party EN-EL15c batteries?

Answer: Yes. The SmallRig 5491 guarantees compatibility with Nikon EN-EL15c batteries and is explicitly capable of charging both OEM and third-party EN-EL15c batteries.

Question: How long does it take to charge two batteries?

Answer: When you use a suitable power adapter (recommended 22.5W or higher), the charger can fully charge two batteries in approximately 2 hours. Charging time will increase if you use a lower-output adapter such as a 5V / 2.4A unit, which forces slow-charge mode.

Question: What happens if I use a low-power adapter or a power bank?

Answer: The charger accepts power from wall adapters, car chargers, and power banks via its USB-C input. If you use a 5V / 2.4A adapter, the unit switches to slow-charge mode and prioritizes Channel 1 until it is full, then charges Channel 2. The charger is not compatible with 5V / 1A adapters.

Question: What safety protections does the charger provide?

Answer: The 5491 includes intelligent circuitry that monitors temperature and voltage. It slows charging during overheating, cuts off power in case of overvoltage, and applies trickle charging when batteries approach full capacity. These protections help maintain battery health and safe operation.
