The SmallRig 5493 guarantees full compatibility with Sony NP-FW50 batteries and charges both original and third-party batteries. Its dual-slot design lets you charge two batteries at the same time or charge a single battery when needed. For efficiency, the charger can fully charge two batteries in approximately 1.5 hours.
Each charging channel features five LED indicators that communicate remaining power in 20% increments. These LEDs display battery levels even when the charger is not connected to external power. In addition, a red warning light activates when battery levels are critically low, helping you spot batteries that need immediate attention.
The charger uses a universal USB-C input and includes a fast-charging USB-C cable. Therefore, you can power the charger from wall adapters, car chargers, and power banks for on-the-go charging. Note: when you use a 5V / 1A adapter, the charger switches to slow-charge mode and prioritizes charging the battery in Channel 1 first, then automatically switches to Channel 2 once Channel 1 is fully charged.
SmallRig designed the 5493 with intelligent circuitry that provides multiple safety protections. The charger monitors temperature and voltage continuously. When it detects overheating, it automatically slows the charging rate. If the charger encounters overvoltage, it cuts off power to protect the battery. Near full capacity, the unit uses trickle charging to preserve battery health.
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| USB-C Input | 5V / 2.2A; 11W (Max) |
| Rated Output (Per Channel) | 8.4V / 0.5A |
| Operating Temperature | 0°C to 45°C |
Question: Can this charger handle third-party NP-FW50 batteries?
Answer: Yes. The SmallRig 5493 guarantees compatibility with Sony NP-FW50 batteries and is capable of charging both original and third-party batteries.
Question: How long does it take to charge two batteries?
Answer: The charger’s dual-slot design can fully charge two batteries in approximately 1.5 hours, allowing you to return to shooting quickly.
Question: What power sources can I use with the charger?
Answer: The charger uses a universal USB-C input and includes a fast-charging cable, so you can use wall adapters, car chargers, or power banks. Keep in mind that a 5V / 1A adapter forces a slow-charge mode and prioritizes Channel 1 until it is full.
Question: What protections does the charger offer for battery health?
Answer: The unit features intelligent circuitry that monitors temperature and voltage, slows charging during overheating, cuts power in case of overvoltage, and applies trickle charging near full capacity to preserve battery life.
